Sean Duffy Confirmed by Senate as Transportation Secretary Under Trump
Former congressman vows to cut red tape and restore safety in American travel.
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Sean Duffy as President Donald Trump’s new Transportation Secretary, marking another major win for the administration’s push to rebuild America’s infrastructure while eliminating bureaucratic roadblocks.
With a 77-22 bipartisan vote, Duffy, a former Wisconsin congressman and Fox Business host, secured the role, pledging to prioritize efficiency, safety, and economic growth in America’s transportation system.
Duffy has wasted no time outlining his key priorities:
Cutting unnecessary regulations that have stalled infrastructure projects for years.
Restoring safety in aviation and travel, including eliminating DEI hiring quotas for pilots and air traffic controllers.
Ensuring ports, dams, and highways serve economic interests without compromising national security.
Trump praised Duffy’s leadership, noting his bipartisan success in securing a $700 million bridge project during his time in Congress. “He will prioritize excellence, competence, competitiveness, and beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges, and airports,” Trump stated.
Duffy’s confirmation drew bipartisan backing, with Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) introducing him at his confirmation hearing, calling him the “right person for the job”. Even so, some Democrats opposed the confirmation, citing Trump’s pause on federal grants and loans as part of his larger effort to rein in reckless government spending.
Duffy replaces Pete Buttigieg, whose tenure at the Department of Transportation was marked by disaster after disaster, including the East Palestine train derailment and ongoing air traffic control failures. Buttigieg is now reportedly eyeing a 2026 Senate run in Michigan, another sign of Democrats scrambling to hold onto power.
With Duffy now at the helm, Americans can expect faster, safer, and more cost-effective infrastructure projects free from the bureaucratic incompetence of the previous administration.
