Arnold Schwarzenegger Shuts Down Jake Tapper’s GOP Gerrymandering Spin

The former California governor schools CNN’s Tapper with facts the left doesn’t want to hear

CNN’s Jake Tapper tried to pin America’s redistricting woes on the Republican Party and got absolutely terminated by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Appearing on State of the Union, the former California governor and lifelong Republican called out Tapper’s one-sided narrative, dismantling the left-wing talking point that GOP-led gerrymandering is the root of America’s political dysfunction. Schwarzenegger, known for his decades-long opposition to political map-rigging, wasn’t having it.

“No, Jake,” he said firmly, cutting off the CNN host. “There has been gerrymandering going on for 200 years.”

Then came the hard truth Tapper didn’t want to hear:

  • In Massachusetts, where 40% voted for Trump, not one Republican holds a congressional seat.

  • In New Mexico, 45% of the vote went to Republicans, yet zero GOP representatives were elected to Congress.

These are not deep-red states they’re Democrat-controlled strongholds where gerrymandering is alive and well. And yet the media turns a blind eye, conveniently ignoring the rampant abuse of redistricting power by the Left.

Schwarzenegger reminded viewers that he fought hard to clean up the process in California by helping create an independent redistricting commission. The goal? Take the power out of politicians’ hands and return it to the people something Democrats preach about but rarely practice.

This isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger has blasted gerrymandering on both sides. In 2019, he teamed up with then-Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to challenge a Democrat-engineered map that was so biased it ended up in the Supreme Court. He also opposed GOP-favored lines in North Carolina. His message has always been consistent: redistricting reform should be nonpartisan.

And that’s the point Tapper conveniently ignored. When Democrats gerrymander entire states to zero out Republican representation, the media stays silent. But when Republicans redraw a map even legally it becomes a "national crisis."

Meanwhile, the damage of Democrat gerrymandering is clear:

  • In Illinois, Democrats manipulated the map to eliminate at least two GOP seats, giving them an unfair edge.

  • In Maryland, the state’s Supreme Court had to strike down the Democrats’ gerrymandered map in 2022 for violating free speech and equal protection rights.

Yet somehow, Tapper still tried to paint Republicans as the only culprits. Schwarzenegger, despite being more centrist than many in the party today, wasn’t about to let that narrative slide.

Gerrymandering is a bipartisan abuse. Pretending it's just a Republican issue? That’s the real misinformation.
