Embattled Schumer Declares Himself ‘The Best Leader’ As Democrats Turn On Him

Facing rebellion in his own party, Schumer clings to power while Trump’s approval surges.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is scrambling to keep control as his own party begins to fracture beneath him. In a desperate attempt to project confidence, Schumer declared in a recent interview, “I’m the best leader for the Senate,” despite facing growing calls for his resignation from frustrated Democrats and liberal groups alike.

The backlash comes after Schumer refused to vote against a Republican-backed stopgap bill designed to avert a government shutdown an act that many on the Left saw as a betrayal. Instead, Schumer allowed the GOP’s six-month continuing resolution to pass, arguing that a shutdown would empower President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk to slash bloated federal programs.

The response?
A full-blown crisis of confidence:

  • Leftist groups demanded Schumer step down as Senate minority leader.

  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries notably dodged a question about supporting Schumer, responding with a curt “next question.”

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is reportedly mobilizing Democrats against Schumer, with whispers circulating that some in Congress are urging her to consider a primary challenge.

To make matters worse, Schumer abruptly canceled his book tour appearances, citing "safety concerns." But no amount of dodging press tours will distract from the fact that his grip on power is slipping fast.

Attempting damage control, Schumer claimed during the interview that he and Jeffries have a grand strategy to counter Trump, citing vague initiatives like a “Medicaid Day of Action” and promises to attack tariffs. But voters aren’t buying it.

While Schumer tries to patch up a fractured party, President Trump is soaring. According to a national NBC poll, 44% of Americans say the U.S. is headed in the right direction, the highest mark since 2004. Meanwhile, Democrats languish at a dismal 27% favorability rating, with CNN polling them at just 29%.

For all of Schumer’s boasts about winning Senate seats, the numbers tell a different story. His party is in chaos, his leadership questioned, and the American public increasingly turning its back on the Democratic Party’s incompetence.

It’s becoming clearer by the day: while Schumer scrambles to hold onto power, Trump continues to deliver real results and the voters know it.
