Russia’s Naval Base in Sudan Sparks U.S. Warning Over Global Security Threat
As Biden dithers and Sudan burns, Putin is planting flags in Africa right next to U.S. military assets.

While chaos consumes Sudan and the Biden administration stumbles on the world stage, Vladimir Putin is moving in, building a strategic naval base in Port Sudan with the potential to reshape power dynamics across the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
According to multiple reports, Russia’s plans for the naval base have already been green-lit by the Sudanese government, even as civil war and humanitarian catastrophe ravage the region. The base would support Russian warships and even nuclear submarines, placing Putin’s military footprint dangerously close to the U.S. base in Djibouti.
The Trump administration isn’t sitting quietly. A senior State Department official warned of “serious consequences” for Sudan if the deal moves forward, noting that any cooperation with Russia’s defense sector could trigger sanctions under U.S. law.
Let’s be clear: this is no ordinary military facility. Strategic analysts say it could function as:
A logistics hub for weapons transfers and ammunition storage
A launch point for intelligence operations and covert power projection
A direct threat to the global oil supply, with the Suez Canal a choke point for 12% of the world’s trade within easy reach
With Russia being pushed out of Syria, Sudan is now poised to host what could become Moscow’s only overseas naval base and it's just a few hundred nautical miles from vital global shipping lanes.
Military expert Rebekah Koffler didn’t mince words: “If Russia senses an escalation say NATO mobilizing in Ukraine Putin could exploit the Suez Canal to destabilize global shipping and retaliate economically.” In other words, Russia is not just trying to compete it’s preparing for confrontation.
And what’s Joe Biden doing? Nothing meaningful. As usual.
Meanwhile, on the ground in Sudan, the civil war is ripping the country apart. The rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) just declared a parallel government, splitting the country in two and threatening long-term regional destabilization. The once-massive Zamzam refugee camp is in ruins. Over 13 million people have been displaced, with untold thousands dead and more dying by the day. Humanitarian groups call it the worst crisis on Earth and Biden’s only response is weak diplomatic language and finger-wagging.
Even liberal experts are starting to admit what conservatives have known all along. Caleb Weiss, a researcher at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said the Biden administration “failed” to push serious peace negotiations, adding that Trump “should continue to be aggressive on sanctions” and lead with force to bring real consequences to destabilizing actors.
Here’s the bottom line: Putin is taking advantage of America’s absence. While Biden tries to lead from behind, Russia is positioning itself to control vital waterways, threaten U.S. assets, and extend its influence in a region we’ve abandoned.
President Trump understands the stakes. It's time we stopped pretending this is just about diplomacy and started recognizing that global power is shifting fast and not in our favor.
