Rubio Warns U.S. May Walk Away from Ukraine Peace Talks
Trump administration signals limited patience as Russia-Ukraine war drags on without serious peace efforts.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a clear message this week the United States is not going to wait around forever while Russia and Ukraine play political games. Speaking from Paris, Rubio made it plain that if real progress isn’t made toward peace within days, the Trump administration is ready to “move on.”
“If it’s not gonna happen, then we’re just gonna move on,” Rubio told reporters.
Rubio, who has been a leading voice on foreign affairs in the Trump administration, said a deal must be deemed doable “in the short term” or the U.S. will stop wasting time and resources trying to mediate a deadlock. He made it clear that President Trump is done with endless wars and open-ended commitments to conflicts where there is no serious will to resolve them.
“If it is not possible,” Rubio said, “then I think President Trump is probably at a point where he’s gonna say, ‘Well, we’re done.’”
This isn’t posturing. This is America finally leading with strength and clarity something the Biden administration failed to do while dragging the U.S. deeper into a proxy war with no end in sight.
Rubio’s remarks followed high-level meetings in Paris with officials from France, the U.K., Germany, and Ukraine, aiming to explore any viable paths to ceasefire and peace. While some Ukrainian leaders, like President Volodymyr Zelensky, continue to post defiant messages accusing Russia of fresh missile attacks, Rubio’s tone suggests the U.S. wants results, not more rhetoric.
“@POTUS has been clear: The time to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is now,” Rubio posted on X.
Yet not everyone in Washington sees it this way. Representative Don Bacon (R-Neb.), for example, is calling for maximum military support for Ukraine, even as Europe’s commitment begins to wane and American voters grow tired of writing blank checks.
“European Allies and U.S. should arm Ukraine to the max and help them defend their country against the Russians, and now the North Koreans and Chinese,” Bacon tweeted.
But here’s the reality the Trump administration is prioritizing peace through strength, not perpetual war fueled by globalist fantasies. If Ukraine and Russia won’t get serious about ending the conflict, then the U.S. must pivot to protecting its own interests, especially as other global threats like China and Iran escalate.
Rubio’s words aren’t just a warning they’re a reset. America First means American interests first, and that includes ending costly foreign entanglements that offer no clear benefit to the American people.
