Rubio Blasts Biden for Political Prosecutions: Claims Trump Never Targeted Opponents

The Florida senator accuses Biden of using the DOJ against rivals, contrasting it with Trump’s presidency.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) strongly criticized President Joe Biden over the weekend for allegedly using the Department of Justice to target political opponents. Rubio made his remarks during a CNN interview on “State of the Union” with Dana Bash while discussing the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that grants presidents immunity for official acts performed within the scope of their duties.

Key points to consider:

  • Rubio asserted that Biden's administration has weaponized the DOJ to prosecute political adversaries, unlike Trump’s administration.

  • The senator highlighted Trump’s stated commitment to winning and improving America, rather than pursuing political vengeance.

  • Rubio emphasized that despite accusations, Trump did not target prominent Democrats during his presidency.

“I’m uncomfortable with the fact now that we have a president who has targets political opponents,” Rubio stated. He argued that under Biden, there has been a clear effort to prosecute political rivals, a stark contrast to Trump’s tenure. “When Donald Trump was president, I can’t think of a single prominent Democrat who was chased around, persecuted, prosecuted.”

Rubio’s comments come in the wake of the DOJ’s ongoing cases against former President Trump and the involvement of a top DOJ official in the controversial Manhattan case against Trump. Despite pushback from Dana Bash, who claimed there was no evidence of Biden targeting Republicans, Rubio stood firm on his accusations.

“It is clear that we have reached an era where there are people in American politics who believe that our courts are now a weapon that can be used against their political opponents,” Rubio said. He detailed the efforts to persecute Trump through legal means, including attempts to bankrupt, silence, and jail him and his allies.

Rubio also noted that during Trump’s four years in office, he did not pursue legal action against the Obamas, Clintons, Bidens, or any of their associates, underscoring the disparity in how political opposition is treated.

As the political climate intensifies, Rubio’s remarks highlight the ongoing debate over the use of judicial power in politics and the ethical implications of prosecuting political figures.
