Republicans Poised to Win House, Securing 2024 Sweep

GOP secures the White House, Senate, and House in a resounding victory.

Nearly a week after Election Day, Republicans have officially been projected to retain control of the House of Representatives, finalizing a 2024 GOP sweep that includes winning back the Senate and placing President-elect Donald Trump back in the White House. Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) announced Monday night that the GOP would hold at least 218 seats, cementing a House majority with the re-election of Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) and the subsequent projection that Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) also secured his seat.

With a handful of races still to be called, the final composition of the House remains uncertain, but Democrats have so far secured 209 seats. Republicans may again find themselves working within a narrow majority, yet the GOP sweep signifies a clear mandate to advance conservative policies on Capitol Hill and beyond.

  • New GOP Leadership Set for 2024: House Republicans are scheduled to hold their leadership elections this Wednesday, with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) expected to seek re-election to his leadership post. Scalise has already laid out his “First 100-Day Agenda,” aligning closely with President-elect Trump’s priorities on tax reform, energy independence, and stricter border policies. The Speaker of the House vote will take place in January, with Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) vying to keep the gavel.

  • A GOP Majority in the Senate: DDHQ previously called the Senate for Republicans just before midnight on Election Day. The GOP is expected to hold 52 seats, with the remaining 47 going to Democrats and independents who caucus with them. The Pennsylvania Senate race between Republican Dave McCormick and incumbent Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) remains too close for DDHQ to officially call, but the Associated Press has declared McCormick the victor. McCormick leads Casey by 35,063 votes, though Casey has so far declined to concede.

  • Trump’s National Security Team: President-elect Trump has already begun selecting key members of his administration. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has been named as U.N. Ambassador, and Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) as National Security Adviser. Both roles align with Trump’s “America First” stance on foreign policy and national defense. Special elections will be held in both representatives’ districts to fill their seats, both considered safe for GOP retention.

This sweeping victory for Republicans delivers a resounding message about the direction Americans want to see. With Trump back in the White House, a GOP-led Senate, and House leadership in place, the next two years are set to bring significant policy shifts aimed at tax relief, national security, and restoring America’s energy independence.
