Ramaswamy Predicts Massive Federal Cuts Under Trump

New Department of Government Efficiency aims to slash bureaucracy, reduce waste, and restore accountability.

Vivek Ramaswamy, tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is promising sweeping changes to the federal bureaucracy during Trump’s second term. Speaking on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Ramaswamy outlined plans for “mass reductions” across the federal government, with entire agencies potentially being eliminated outright.

Downsizing the Administrative State

“We expect mass reductions,” Ramaswamy told host Maria Bartiromo. “Certain agencies will be deleted outright. We expect massive cuts among federal contractors and others who are overbilling the government. I think people will be surprised by how quickly we can implement these changes, given the legal backdrop the Supreme Court has provided us.”

Ramaswamy argued that much of the federal bureaucracy operates outside congressional oversight, with over half a trillion dollars annually spent without proper authorization. He pointed to the unelected administrative state as a key driver of inefficiency and waste, calling its size “antidemocratic.”

Key Reforms

The Trump administration’s plan for reform includes:

  • Eliminating Redundant Agencies: Trump has previously called for the abolition of the Department of Education, a sentiment Ramaswamy echoed by arguing that its functions should be returned to the states.

  • Downsizing Federal Workforce: Ramaswamy noted the government employs 4 million civil servants, many of whom are insulated from accountability. He stressed the need for compassion during transitions but argued that the workforce’s size is unsustainable.

  • Cutting Contractor Waste: Targeting federal contractors and private firms overcharging taxpayers will be a priority.

  • Relocating Departments: Some agencies may be moved out of Washington, D.C., to make them “more accountable to the people.”

“The dirty little secret right now,” Ramaswamy said, “is the people we elect to run the government aren’t the ones who actually run it. That has to change.”

Executive Action for Immediate Results

Ramaswamy emphasized that Trump’s changes could begin immediately through executive action. “The administrative state was created through executive action. It’s going to be fixed through executive action,” he said. Rescinding unnecessary federal regulations, he added, would provide the foundation for downsizing bureaucracies further.

Ramaswamy acknowledged the cultural shift necessary to combat what he described as a federal hiring ethos that values unchecked growth over accountability to Americans. “It’s a culture that’s pervaded the entire federal government of hiring people who have no accountability to everyday Americans,” he said.

Restoring Accountability

This initiative aligns with Trump’s broader vision of returning power to the people by dismantling the unelected bureaucratic class. “The beauty of all of this,” Ramaswamy noted, “is that the president can act swiftly without waiting on Congress, focusing on the most bloated and unnecessary parts of the federal government.”

As DOGE prepares to lead the charge, Ramaswamy and his team will oversee a historic effort to streamline the federal government, reduce waste, and restore accountability to Washington.
