Ramaswamy Open to Replacing Vance as Senator if Approached

Biotech Entrepreneur Eyes Potential Senate Role Amid Trump's 2024 Bid.

Biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy revealed on Monday that he would “strongly consider” replacing J.D. Vance as U.S. Senator from Ohio if asked, following former President Donald Trump’s decision to select Vance as his running mate for the 2024 election. Ramaswamy's comments came during an interview at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

  • Ramaswamy, who ran against Trump for the GOP presidential nomination before endorsing him, expressed his willingness to step into the Senate role if Ohio Governor Mike DeWine requires a successor for Vance.

  • Emphasizing his commitment to tackling the administrative state, Ramaswamy stated, “My top passion and sense of purpose is tackling the administrative state. It exists in cancerous ways at the federal level and in all 50 states in this country.”

  • The Ohio native has been considered for various significant roles, including a potential Cabinet position, highlighting his ongoing influence and alignment with Trump’s agenda.

In the interview, Ramaswamy underscored the importance of addressing the “shadow government” within both the executive and legislative branches to restore accountability to elected lawmakers rather than unelected bureaucrats. He remains open-minded about the different possibilities post-Trump's potential victory in the 2024 election.

Former Ohio Republican Party Chairwoman Jane Timken, who lost to Vance in the 2022 Senate race, also mentioned her willingness to consider the Senate position if the opportunity arises. Additionally, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a Trump ally, was suggested as a potential candidate by sources.

Governor DeWine praised Trump's choice of Vance as a running mate but stated it is "much too early" to discuss a possible replacement. According to WKYC, any appointed successor would serve temporarily until a special general election in November 2026 determines who will complete Vance's term ending in January 2029.

In the meantime, Ohio's political landscape remains dynamic with the 2024 Senate race featuring Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) against businessman Bernie Moreno, who secured the GOP nomination in March. Polls currently show Brown holding an advantage in the general election.
