Putin and Zelensky Set to Meet in Person Within Two Weeks

Trump-led peace push accelerates as German Chancellor confirms direct talks between Ukraine and Russia.

For the first time since the war began nearly four years ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet face-to-face, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed Monday in Washington.

The historic announcement comes just days after President Donald Trump hosted a major multilateral peace summit at the White House, marking a massive shift in momentum for ending the devastating Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Merz told reporters that the Putin-Zelensky meeting will take place within the next two weeks, and that Trump would join in a follow-up trilateral peace negotiation a major diplomatic breakthrough the mainstream media once deemed “impossible.”

“Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “After that [one-on-one] meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself.”

Putin reportedly confirmed his willingness to meet Zelensky during a private phone call with Trump following Monday’s summit.

Merz took a swipe at the Russian leader, saying he still questioned whether Putin had the “courage” to meet Zelensky in person. But Trump’s leadership is now making that courage harder to avoid.

While the Biden administration threw billions at a war with no strategy, Trump is making serious progress through direct diplomacy and clear leverage. On Monday, discussions included U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine, coordinated European support, and broader diplomatic frameworks that exclude NATO military involvement something Russia firmly opposes.

“We confirm the position... rejecting any scenarios involving NATO peacekeepers,” Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement, warning of “uncontrolled escalation.”

Despite that, Trump made it clear that Europe will help lead Ukraine’s security future, with the U.S. playing a supporting role not dragging Americans into another endless war.

“They are the first line of defense, because they’re there they’re Europe,” Trump told reporters. “But we’re going to help them out also. We’ll be involved.”

The idea of land-for-peace especially the status of the Donbas region was also floated during the summit. Predictably, European leaders voiced strong opposition.

“The Russian demand that Kyiv give up the free parts of Donbas corresponds, to put it bluntly, to a proposal for the United States to have to give up Florida,” Merz said.

It’s a controversial idea, but one Trump has never shied away from discussing because unlike the bureaucrats and warmongers, he’s willing to make real, difficult decisions to get real peace.

“This was a very good, early step for a war that has been going on for almost four years,” Trump said.

  • Putin and Zelensky to meet within two weeks, at a location to be announced.

  • Trump will participate in a trilateral peace summit following that meeting.

  • Security guarantees, territorial status, and the future of Ukraine’s governance remain key topics.

  • European leaders, including Merkel’s successor Friedrich Merz, have thrown their weight behind Trump’s efforts.

As Trump leads the world’s most serious peace effort in years, one thing is clear: he’s doing what Biden and the globalist class refused to do leading.
