Pro-Lifer Sentenced to Prison in Biden Administration Crackdown

Christian activist Cal Zastrow faces harsh punishment for peaceful protest.

In a stark example of the Biden administration's aggressive stance against pro-life activism, Christian advocate Cal Zastrow was sentenced to six months in prison for his participation in a peaceful protest at a Tennessee abortion facility in March 2021.

Zastrow received his sentence from Judge Aleta Trauger in Nashville federal court on Wednesday. Alongside the prison term, he was given three years of supervised release but was spared a fine. Zastrow, required to report to prison by October 1, used his court appearance to speak about his Christian faith, emphasizing his belief in the sanctity of life and quoting scripture from Revelation 5:11-14.

Key Points:

  • Incarceration: Zastrow is now a felon, stripping him of his voting rights and firearm ownership.

  • Peaceful Protest: The charges stem from a peaceful sit-in at the Carafem Health Center Clinic, where no violence occurred.

  • Religious Persecution: Judge Trauger criticized Zastrow's religious motivations, dismissing his statements about faith.

The Biden Justice Department charged Zastrow and ten other pro-life advocates for their involvement in the non-violent protest. The group had gathered outside the Carafem clinic, praying, singing hymns, and urging women to reconsider their decision to undergo abortions.

This sentencing follows closely on the heels of co-defendant Paul Vaughn's court appearance, where Judge Trauger, despite the administration's push for a year-long sentence, opted against prison time. Vaughn, a former Navy serviceman, articulated his commitment to pro-life activities as an expression of his patriotism, receiving significant support from the community present in court.

The Thomas More Society, representing Vaughn, plans to appeal his conviction, highlighting the ongoing legal battles faced by pro-life advocates under the current administration.

The crackdown on peaceful pro-life demonstrations has sparked outrage among supporters, leading to rallies at Christ Church Nashville. Hundreds of attendees sang, prayed, and voiced their support for the convicted activists, demonstrating the strong community backing for individuals like Zastrow and Vaughn.

As other members of the protest, including Coleman Boyd and Dennis Green, await their sentencing, the pro-life movement braces for further confrontations with an administration seemingly determined to silence their cause.
