Pro-Iran Trump Assassin Plotter Urged Iran to Assassinate Trump
Pro-Iran attacker expressed support for regime and urged assassination of Trump.
The suspected would-be assassin arrested in Florida over the weekend had previously advocated for the Islamic Republic of Iran to assassinate former President Donald Trump, according to a self-published book he wrote last year. The suspect, Ryan Routh, was arrested by authorities on Sunday after hiding near Trump’s golf course with an AK-47-style rifle.
Routh, a Democrat donor with a criminal record that legally barred him from owning firearms, was spotted by Secret Service agents just a few hundred yards from where Trump was playing golf at Trump International in West Palm Beach. After agents opened fire, Routh fled and was apprehended shortly after on Interstate 95.
In his book, titled Ukraine’s Unwinnable War, Routh expressed disturbing views, including a call for Iran to assassinate Trump. “You are free to assassinate Trump as well as me for that error in judgment,” Routh wrote, referring to Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. He praised the deal brokered by former Secretary of State John Kerry and harshly criticized Trump, even apologizing to Iran for his vote in the 2016 election.
Routh advocated for Iran to assassinate Trump in a self-published book.
Authorities arrested Routh after he was found hiding with a weapon just hundreds of yards from Trump.
Routh has a criminal history that should have prevented him from owning a firearm.
While authorities have yet to establish any direct link between Routh and the Iranian regime, his writings reveal a clear affinity for Iran and its opposition to U.S. sanctions. National security officials have recently warned of Iran's increasing attempts to sabotage Trump’s campaign and even its efforts to assassinate the former president.
The arrest comes just weeks after another would-be assassin fired at Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, hitting him in the ear. These repeated attempts highlight the growing threats against Trump as he campaigns for the 2024 presidential election.
With Iran’s hostility toward Trump well-documented, the regime has previously been linked to cyberattacks against his campaign and other hostile actions. As Trump’s influence grows ahead of the upcoming election, these incidents serve as a stark reminder of the external threats he faces.
