Judge Blocks Trump Order to Deploy National Guard to Portland
Federal court sides with left-wing protesters over law and order as Portland chaos continues.

In a move that once again prioritizes political optics over public safety, U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut has temporarily blocked President Trump’s order to deploy National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon a city that has seen years of chaos, vandalism, and anti-government violence under Democrat leadership.
The ruling comes after three days of trial testimony and over 750 reviewed exhibits, with Judge Immergut concluding that the Trump administration had failed to justify deploying troops to defend the federal ICE building in Portland. According to the court, the protests which have included Molotov cocktails, property destruction, and assaults on federal officers in recent years did not rise to the level of “rebellion.”
Let’s be clear about what this decision represents: a federal judge deciding that maintaining order and protecting federal property from politically-motivated agitators isn’t reason enough to activate the National Guard.
Here’s what Judge Immergut’s ruling does:
Blocks the Department of Defense from deploying National Guard troops from Oregon, Texas, or California into Portland.
Claims there was “no credible evidence” of widespread violence despite years of documented rioting.
Argues that the use of federal troops would violate the Tenth Amendment and infringe on Oregon’s state sovereignty.
This is the same Portland where rioters have attacked police precincts, set fire to courthouses, and turned parts of the city into lawless zones. Between 2020 and 2022 alone, Portland suffered over $100 million in riot-related damages, with businesses still fleeing the city due to rising crime and lack of law enforcement support. Homicides in Portland rose 207% from 2019 to 2022, with the city earning a reputation as one of the most dangerous in the Pacific Northwest.
Yet the court believes this is just “isolated and sporadic” unrest?
It’s no coincidence that Portland's Democrat leadership has repeatedly refused help from federal law enforcement, even as their city spirals. They allowed anarchists to dominate the streets, cripple small businesses, and endanger residents. And now, a federal judge is blocking the president from doing what local leaders refuse to do: restore order.
Instead of standing with law-abiding citizens and overburdened law enforcement, the ruling prioritizes the “rights” of left-wing mobs who’ve been given free rein to destroy in the name of activism. Apparently, when Democrats are in charge, “rebellion” has to come with pitchforks and torches before anyone lifts a finger to stop it.
The court’s final ruling is expected by Friday, November 7. Until then, the Oregon National Guard remains federalized but benched another casualty of a broken system that protects lawlessness while handcuffing those trying to fix it.
