Pope Francis in Stable Condition and Improving, But Remains Hospitalized

Vatican says pontiff’s condition is stable but still requires medical care.

Pope Francis remains hospitalized but stable as he continues to recover from a severe case of pneumonia, the Vatican confirmed Thursday. The 88-year-old pontiff has shown significant improvement in recent days but will require continued medical care, including oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation at night.

The Holy See Press Office reported that the Pope had a restful night and continues to receive physical therapy and spiritual exercises, marking the 12th anniversary of his election as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

While X-rays confirm improvements, doctors caution that his condition remains complex, likely requiring an extended hospital stay at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been since February 14.

Pope Francis’ health issues have sparked global concern, especially given his history of chronic lung disease and the fact that he had part of one lung removed in his youth. His illness began as bronchitis but worsened into double pneumonia, leading to hospitalization and fears for his survival.

On Monday, the Vatican reassured the public that he is no longer in immediate danger, though medical staff remain cautious about his recovery timeline.

As Pope Francis continues to improve, the Vatican remains focused on ensuring his full recovery. The world watches as the elderly pontiff battles serious health challenges, with many praying for his swift return to full strength.
