Pentagon Withdraws 2,000 Troops from Los Angeles After Trump Restores Order
Trump’s decisive federal action ends chaos in L.A. as military begins drawdown following successful crackdown on rioters and MS-13 gangs.

After restoring law and order in Los Angeles, the Pentagon has announced the withdrawal of 2,000 National Guardsmen, marking a significant milestone in President Donald Trump’s firm response to the violent June riots.
The move, confirmed Tuesday by Pentagon Chief Spokesman Sean Parnell, is being touted as a mission success.
“Thanks to our troops who stepped up to answer the call, the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding,” Parnell said. “As such, the Secretary has ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guardsmen from the federal protection mission.”
The withdrawal comes after a month-long operation launched by Trump to confront violent unrest triggered by backlash against increased ICE enforcement in the L.A. area. Rioters hurled Molotov cocktails and bricks at federal vehicles, overwhelming local police forces and threatening the safety of federal buildings and personnel.
President Trump quickly responded, federalizing 4,000 California National Guard troops and sending in 700 U.S. Marines to back up immigration officers and restore control of the city. His move, condemned by Democrats as “unconstitutional,” was later upheld in court.
“Both irreparable harm and the public interest weigh in favor of Defendants,” the appeals court ruled, siding squarely with the Trump administration. The court emphasized the federal government’s “uncontested interest in the protection of federal agents and property.”
Trump’s response directly countered California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, both of whom accused the Trump administration of “escalating” tensions. But the facts tell a different story: within days of the federal deployment, curfews were imposed, violence dropped, and federal raids began dismantling gang strongholds.
In one instance, the military joined ICE agents in a successful raid on a park controlled by MS-13 gang members, demonstrating the level of coordination and strength required to deal with the city’s lawlessness.
Cost of deployment: $130 million, according to new estimates.
4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines deployed at peak operation.
Federal property, ICE agents, and neighborhoods now secured after weeks of chaos.
This withdrawal doesn’t mean the mission is over. Federal troops will continue protecting key assets and backing immigration enforcement, while half the National Guard contingent returns home.
Meanwhile, Mayor Bass tried to claim the drawdown as a victory for protesters, posting “This retreat happened because the people of Los Angeles stood united and stood strong.”
But the truth is clear law and order were restored not by hashtags or hollow slogans but by boots on the ground, firm leadership, and a president unafraid to act when local Democrats failed to do their jobs.
