Mary Peltola Launches Senate Bid Against Sullivan in Alaska

Democrats eye a Senate seat flip as Peltola re-enters the fray, but her radical record and failed leadership haunt her chances.

The Alaska Senate race just got a lot more interesting and a lot more revealing. Former Democrat Rep. Mary Peltola officially launched her bid for U.S. Senate in 2026, aiming to unseat Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. But while the Left is celebrating her entry, Alaskans would be wise to remember what she really stands for: radical policies, a weak legislative record, and an unwavering loyalty to Joe Biden’s anti-Alaska agenda.

Shortly after her announcement, the Cook Political Report downgraded the race from “Solid Republican” to “Lean Republican,” signaling that national Democrats see an opportunity to pour millions into a state they’ve long failed to win outright. But money can't erase the facts.

Peltola’s campaign slogan may echo “fish, family, and freedom,” but her record tells a different story. During her brief stint in Congress from 2022 to 2025, she:

  • Failed to pass a single bill into law, despite Democrats controlling the Senate and White House early in her tenure.

  • Supported Biden’s crippling energy policies, which targeted Alaska’s economy and left thousands of working families behind.

  • Backed radical gender policies that turned off voters in a state with strong traditional values.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee wasted no time responding with a pointed digital ad:

“Peltola rubber-stamped Biden’s Alaska last policies and didn’t get a single bill signed into law. Still radical. Still ineffective. Still Alaska Last.”

And that’s not political spin it’s just the record.

After losing re-election in 2024 to Republican Nick Begich III, Peltola didn’t take time to reconnect with voters. She cashed out immediately and jumped into lobbying, cozying up with special interest groups. It’s the typical Washington Democrat career move: lose, sell out, then ask voters to forget it ever happened.

But Alaska voters aren’t buying it. They’ve already shown they can’t be fooled by flashy slogans and D.C. doublespeak. In fact, Peltola’s initial win in 2022 was largely thanks to Alaska’s controversial ranked-choice voting system, which diluted the conservative vote and handed her a narrow victory over former Gov. Sarah Palin. That same system saw her ousted just two years later.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dan Sullivan continues to earn strong marks for his work defending Alaska’s energy sector, standing up to Biden’s overreach, and delivering real results. Backed by fellow Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, Sullivan remains a reliable voice for Alaska’s values and its economic future.

With Senate control on the line in 2026, this race is shaping up to be a national battleground. Democrats are desperate to flip seats, especially after bleeding support in working-class and energy-producing states. Peltola is their gamble but she’s one Alaskans have already rejected.

This November, voters won’t be swayed by hashtags or hollow promises. They’ll vote for leadership that actually delivers and that’s Dan Sullivan.
