Pelosi Questions Supreme Court’s Legitimacy: ‘They Have Gone Rogue’

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Comments Reflect Growing Democratic Discontent.

In a striking interview this week, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) challenged the legitimacy of the U.S. Supreme Court, accusing it of having “gone rogue.” The former Speaker of the House shared her concerns with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday night, expressing her dissatisfaction with recent court rulings and questioning the integrity of the justices.

Pelosi did not hold back in her critique. "No, I think they have gone rogue. It’s most unfortunate," she stated when asked if she had confidence in the court. She went on to question the actions of the Chief Justice, suggesting he might have "gone weak or gone rogue."

  • Pelosi's remarks underscore a broader frustration within the Democratic Party regarding the Supreme Court's direction.

  • The former Speaker referenced the Capitol riot, alleging that attackers had intended violence against her and former Vice President Mike Pence.

  • Pelosi criticized the justices for voting on what she described as “their opinion on policy” rather than adhering strictly to the Constitution.

Pelosi’s comments highlight a growing trend among Democrats to scrutinize the Supreme Court's decisions, particularly those that appear to reflect conservative viewpoints on key issues like abortion. "I respect their point of view. If they have a point of view about a woman’s right to choose, okay, but that’s not what they’re there to do, to advocate for a point of view. Run for Congress," she remarked, emphasizing her belief that justices should not legislate from the bench.

She concluded by expressing a desire for a return to a time when all three branches of government were respected. “I want us to get back to a place where the three branches of government, as our Founders initiated, are respected across the board,” Pelosi said, adding, “But I don’t have a lot of confidence in this court, unfortunately. I say that with a heavy heart.”

Pelosi’s pointed critique of the Supreme Court reflects the heightened tensions and division within the country’s political landscape as we approach the 2024 elections. Her comments serve as a rallying cry for those who feel the judiciary has strayed from its foundational principles.
