Pelosi Claims Democrats Will Retake House and Backs Jeffries as Future Speaker

Despite public stumbles, Pelosi doubles down on Hakeem Jeffries and predicts a Democratic takeover in 2026.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi is brimming with confidence about her party's political future and it’s not based in reality.

In a weekend interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, Pelosi declared with absolute certainty that Democrats will retake the House of Representatives in 2026 and praised current Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as the “unifier” who will lead them to victory and eventually take over as Speaker.

“No, no when the Democrats win the House back, because we will,” Pelosi said, correcting Karl mid-question.

The arrogance couldn’t be clearer. Pelosi’s tone reflected a belief not only in her party’s inevitable return to power but also in Jeffries’ readiness to confront Donald Trump if (and when) he returns to the White House. “Just do your own thing, just be yourself,” Pelosi advised Jeffries on handling Trump. “He is a unifier.”

But here’s the problem: Jeffries’ record doesn’t reflect leadership or unity just deflection and failure.

  • Jeffries falsely accused House Speaker Mike Johnson of ignoring him during budget talks. It was quickly revealed that Johnson had reached out, and it was Jeffries who refused to engage unless Democrats got their way.

  • He misrepresented the facts on the government shutdown, repeatedly blaming Republicans while offering no viable solutions, even as Democrat-led Senate dysfunction prolonged the crisis.

  • He publicly trashed Dr. Mehmet Oz now head of Medicare and Medicaid under President Trump calling the Harvard- and UPenn-educated surgeon “woefully unqualified.” The remark was so off-base that Fox News anchor John Roberts immediately fact-checked Jeffries, detailing Oz’s elite academic and professional background.

Pelosi’s effusive praise ignores all of it. Her cheerleading for Jeffries seems less about his ability and more about propping up a weak Democratic bench as the party grapples with internal fractures, rising unpopularity, and the looming specter of another Trump presidency.

Polls show voters are exhausted by Democrat-led dysfunction. Crime is up, the border is out of control, inflation remains high, and the party continues to double down on failed policies and weak leadership. Pelosi might be clinging to a legacy, but Americans are craving results not more empty promises and partisan theater.

As for Jeffries being a “unifier”? The facts suggest otherwise. His record shows a party-line loyalist who echoes DNC talking points and shuts down dialogue when it doesn’t go his way.

Pelosi’s farewell tour might make for nice headlines in liberal media circles, but the American people are paying attention and they’re tired of political elites who are more focused on their next press conference than the country’s future.
