Paraguay Targets Iran and Terror Groups, Earning Praise from Trump Administration
In a bold move, Paraguay targets IRGC, Hezbollah, and Hamas as Trump admin builds global coalition against Iranian terror.

The Trump administration scored a major foreign policy win this week as Paraguay formally designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, dealing a sharp blow to Tehran’s terror network in Latin America. In response, the State Department praised the move as a decisive step toward dismantling Iran's influence in the Western Hemisphere.
"The United States welcomes President Santiago Peña’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization," said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce. She emphasized the action as a critical measure that will “cut off the ability of the Iranian regime and its proxies to plot terrorist attacks and raise money for its malignant and destabilizing activity.”
Paraguay didn’t stop there. It also expanded its previous 2019 designations of Hezbollah and Hamas to include their entire organizations not just the armed wings, but the political and financial branches as well. That’s a hardline stance most countries have been too timid to take.
Why does this matter? Because Iran is the world’s top state sponsor of terrorism, and it has used its proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas to wage chaos across the globe from the Middle East to South America. The Tri-Border Area, where Paraguay borders Argentina and Brazil, is a known hotbed for Hezbollah-linked money laundering and criminal networks. This region is a strategic front in the war on terror, and Paraguay just turned up the pressure.
Let’s not forget:
Hezbollah operatives have been active in the Tri-Border Area for decades, using local businesses to funnel money to terrorist cells.
The IRGC, through its Qods Force, directs terrorist activities globally and helps coordinate operations of proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas.
Under Biden, Iran’s influence and funding grew unchecked, thanks to a flood of sanctions relief and diplomatic groveling.
President Trump, however, has never played nice with Iran. He torched the disastrous Obama-era nuclear deal in 2018, called out the IRGC as terrorists, and reimposed crippling sanctions on the regime. His return to office has brought a renewed and unapologetic foreign policy, focused on American strength and holding rogue regimes accountable.
Now, with two rounds of nuclear talks already completed and a third on the way, the Trump administration is negotiating from a position of strength not weakness.
Tammy Bruce made it clear: this is just the beginning. “The United States will continue to work with partners such as Paraguay to confront global security threats,” she said, calling on other nations to follow Paraguay’s lead and stop Iranian operatives, recruiters, and financiers from hiding in plain sight.
At a time when the world desperately needs real leadership, Trump’s foreign policy team is delivering results building alliances, confronting enemies, and proving once again that peace through strength isn’t just a slogan it’s a strategy.
