Oprah Foresees Women ‘Weeping in the Streets’ If Kamala Harris Becomes President
Billionaire Endorses Harris, Champions Abortion as Essential to ‘American Dream’
Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey stirred controversy this week with her bold prediction that women around the world will be "weeping in the streets" if Kamala Harris wins the 2024 presidential election. Winfrey, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, made these comments during an interview with CBS, shortly after delivering a speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Winfrey didn't hold back as she painted a Harris victory as a historic triumph for women, particularly emphasizing the significance of breaking the so-called "glass ceiling." "It will mean that actually anything is possible because this is her mother, her father, two immigrants coming to the United States … only in America could Kamala Harris’ story be possible," Winfrey gushed. The billionaire’s words were steeped in sentimentality, portraying Harris as a beacon of hope for women everywhere.
But it wasn’t just gender politics that Oprah championed. In both her CBS interview and her DNC speech, Winfrey zealously promoted abortion as a cornerstone of the "American Dream." With characteristic flair, she linked abortion rights to personal freedom and autonomy, claiming that without the right to terminate pregnancies, the American Dream itself would be out of reach.
“If you do not have autonomy over this—” she gestured to her body, “if you cannot control when and how you choose to bring your children into this world, and how they are raised and supported, there is no American Dream.” According to Winfrey, those who oppose abortion are pushing America back to a "time of desperation and shame," likening pro-abortion advocates to "new freedom fighters."
This rhetoric is typical of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, which increasingly equates the right to abortion with freedom and equality. But for many Americans, Oprah’s words will ring hollow, especially given the broader implications of the policies she promotes.
Winfrey’s declaration that "decency and respect are on the ballot" is ironic, considering the Democratic Party's aggressive push for policies that many see as undermining these very values. By intertwining the concept of the American Dream with the right to abortion, Winfrey is not just making a political statement—she's making a moral one, one that may alienate a significant portion of the electorate.
As the 2024 election looms, Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, complete with apocalyptic predictions and emotional appeals, is likely to resonate with some, but it also highlights the deepening divide in American society over what values should define the nation’s future.
