Omar Fateh Loses Minneapolis Race After Radical Left Agenda Rejected
Minneapolis voters reject socialist campaign that promised sanctuary for illegal immigrants and gender surgeries.

Minneapolis voters just sent a loud and clear message they are not interested in turning their city into a leftist experiment.
Democratic Socialist Omar Fateh, who tried to ride the same extremist wave as New York’s Zohran Mamdani, lost his bid to unseat incumbent Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey. Despite being initially endorsed by the local Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), Fateh’s radical policies and campaign rhetoric ultimately failed to resonate beyond his activist base.
Frey held a commanding lead from the first round of ranked-choice voting 41.8% to Fateh’s 31.7% and maintained momentum through the final round to secure reelection. This wasn’t just a political win for Frey; it was a decisive rejection of the far-left ideology Fateh tried to impose on Minneapolis.
Here’s what Fateh promised if elected:
Turn Minneapolis into the “last line of defense” against President Trump’s return in 2024.
Make the city a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, unrestricted abortion access, and transgender surgeries and hormone treatments.
Freeze rent and direct taxpayer funding toward housing explicitly for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC groups, based on claims that they are the most “at risk” from police and employers.
Fateh didn’t just push progressive ideas he championed an all-out socialist transformation. His messaging openly framed Minneapolis as a political bunker against Trump and American values. He wasn’t running to govern; he was campaigning to wage a culture war against anyone who disagrees with the radical left’s agenda.
Even the endorsement process for his campaign raised serious questions. Although Fateh initially won the DFL’s backing, Frey challenged the legality of the endorsement vote. The DFL’s own Constitution, Bylaws & Rules Committee later agreed, withdrawing the endorsement a clear embarrassment for the local party and a reflection of just how fractured the Democrat base has become.
While Democrats are busy fighting among themselves, voters are watching crime rise, housing costs soar, and basic city services falter under the weight of ideological battles. According to recent data, violent crime in Minneapolis is up over 20% since 2020, and average rent has increased by nearly 15% over the past two years, despite all the progressive posturing about “affordable housing.”
In contrast, Omar Fateh's solution was not to fix the problem, but to redistribute resources based on race, gender identity, and political loyalty while turning the city into a progressive stronghold against a potential Trump administration.
This race shows a growing weariness, even among liberal cities, with candidates who push radical policies over practical governance. As 2024 looms closer, Democrats should take note: America isn’t buying what the far-left is selling.
If this is the future the Democratic Party has in mind, it’s no wonder more Americans are turning to real leadership leaders who believe in law, order, freedom, and a country that works for everyone, not just the chosen woke classes.
