Governor Newsom Cut Around $150 Million from Wildfire Prevention Funding
Years of reckless policies and climate posturing left California unprepared for disaster.
As California burns, the devastating wildfires are exposing years of reckless mismanagement by Governor Gavin Newsom. A shocking 2021 investigation found that Newsom slashed $150 million from California’s wildfire prevention budget, leaving the state vulnerable to record-breaking destruction.
A CapRadio and NPR investigation revealed that Newsom had not only cut funding but also lied about his administration’s efforts:
He overstated California’s wildfire prevention progress by 690%.
Fuel reduction efforts dropped by half in 2020, falling below even former Governor Jerry Brown’s final year.
Trump repeatedly warned Newsom about poor forest management, but instead of fixing the issue, Newsom cut resources and ignored reality.
In 2019, President Trump bluntly warned Newsom:
“The Governor of California has done a terrible job of forest management. Every year, California burns, and then he comes to the federal government for $$$ help. No more. Get your act together.”
Instead of taking action, Newsom dismissed concerns and doubled down on bad policies.
While Newsom’s administration insists there is “no water shortage”, the reality on the ground is far different:
Hydrants in Pacific Palisades went dry as firefighters battled the largest fire in Los Angeles history.
Firefighters have been forced to use swimming pool water because the state’s water system has failed.
The Department of Water and Power admits that water quality is now decreasing due to extreme system strain and ash contamination.
California could be capturing millions of gallons of runoff water, but thanks to years of poor planning, much of it flows unused into the ocean.
In a shameful political stunt, Newsom and then vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris trespassed onto a wildfire victim’s property in 2020 for a photo-op to push their climate agenda.
The homeowner’s son, Trampas Patten, blasted them on Facebook:
“What has me really frustrated is that these two politicians used my parents’ loss for a photo opportunity to push their political agenda! Decent human beings wouldn’t air someone else’s misfortune on national television!”
Now, with over $50 billion in damages and hundreds of thousands of people evacuated, Newsom scrambles to shift blame. But no amount of spin can erase the truth: his policies directly contributed to this disaster.
Instead of focusing on real solutions, California’s leadership has been more concerned with photo-ops and radical environmental agendas that do nothing to stop fires.
How much longer will Californians tolerate this incompetence?
