Netanyahu Proposes 'Abraham Alliance' to Combat Iran and Hamas

Netanyahu emphasizes the strong U.S.-Israel bond and calls for a united front against terrorism.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a powerful speech to a joint session of Congress, praising the enduring bond between the United States and Israel while proposing a new strategic partnership to counter Iran and its proxies. Netanyahu’s "Abraham Alliance" aims to expand on the success of the Abraham Accords, bringing Israel and Arab states together to confront shared threats.

Key Points:

  • Netanyahu highlighted the mutual benefits of U.S.-Israel cooperation, particularly in military and technological advancements.

  • He stressed that Israel’s actions to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons also protect American interests.

  • The prime minister underscored the importance of the Abraham Accords, which established peace between Israel and four Arab nations.

Netanyahu’s address comes amid ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, following the terror group’s brutal October 7 invasion that resulted in over 1,000 Israeli casualties. This was Netanyahu’s fourth address to Congress, where he reiterated the significant threat posed by Iran, citing its extensive support for terrorism and destabilization efforts.

“Iran is virtually behind all the terrorism, all the turmoil, all the chaos, all the killings,” Netanyahu stated, emphasizing the necessity for U.S.-Israel solidarity against these threats. He praised both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump for their unwavering support of Israel, noting Biden’s swift condemnation of Hamas and Trump’s role in the Abraham Accords.

The prime minister was accompanied by Noa Argamani, a former hostage held by Hamas, and other victims and heroes of the recent attacks. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s commitment to liberate all hostages and achieve a decisive victory over Hamas, stating that 135 of the 255 hostages have already returned home.

“Proportionately, compared to our population size, that’s like 20 9/11s in one day,” Netanyahu remarked, highlighting the severity of the October 7 attacks. He condemned the terrorists’ atrocities and praised the bravery of Israeli soldiers who fought back.

Netanyahu outlined his vision for Gaza’s future, calling for its demilitarization and the establishment of a civilian administration free from terror affiliations. He emphasized that Israel does not seek to resettle Gaza but insists on maintaining security control to prevent further threats.

“Israel does not seek to resettle Gaza, but for the foreseeable future, we must retain overriding security control there to prevent the resurgence of terror to ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel,” he declared.

Despite a boycott of the speech by over 50 Democratic lawmakers, Netanyahu aimed to reinforce bipartisan support for Israel. He criticized the anti-Israel sentiments on American campuses, condemning protesters as "useful idiots for Iran."

“When the tyrants of Tehran, who hang gays from cranes and murder women for not covering their hair, are praising, promoting, and funding you, you have officially become Iran’s useful idiots,” Netanyahu said, calling out the misguided protests.

Netanyahu concluded by urging the United States to expedite weapons shipments to Israel, invoking Winston Churchill’s famous plea during World War II: “Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.” He asserted that the war in Gaza could end immediately if Hamas surrendered and disarmed.
