NC Residents Slam Feds, Biden, and Harris for Slow Response: 'Nobody's Going to Help Us'
Frustration Grows As Residents Rely On Private Help While Federal Aid Lags.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation, residents of North Carolina are expressing outrage over the federal government’s sluggish response to the disaster, which has claimed over 220 lives and left communities in the western part of the state in ruins. From Asheville to Chimney Rock, towns have been decimated by flooding, with thousands left without power, clean water, or communication. As recovery drags on, the absence of federal assistance has left many feeling abandoned by the Biden administration.
Suffering residents have turned to each other for help, criticizing FEMA for being completely absent in many affected areas. “Nobody’s going to help us,” one Asheville woman told NBC News, echoing the widespread frustration with federal relief efforts. Another resident expressed disbelief at the lack of federal presence, saying, “FEMA is not on the ground there at all, not in these towns and not in these villages.”
In contrast to the federal government's slow reaction, private citizens have been stepping up. “There are lines of private planes that have landed and are taking off, dropping off supplies and personnel,” one resident reported. “See, America is responding. The government is telling us there’s no way to get in, but America is not listening. And God bless America.”
As Biden and Harris face increasing criticism, many residents have expressed a deep sense of abandonment. One woman questioned the president’s leadership: “We heard that Biden was just, ya know, gonna be flying around it kind of just made us feel like, as our president, where is the guidance?” Meanwhile, a young man, an avid supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris, tearfully asked in a viral TikTok video, “Where is our f***ing government?” His video was captioned, “[Kamala Harris], you broke my heart,” capturing the disillusionment felt by many.
220+ lives lost, making Hurricane Helene the deadliest storm since Hurricane Katrina.
Entire communities in western North Carolina remain without basic services like water and electricity.
400 pallets of food and water dropped by FEMA went missing, compounding the chaos.
North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards (R) has also blasted the Biden administration’s slow response, calling FEMA’s performance “disappointing.” Edwards highlighted the dire need for supplies in several counties and revealed that state officials were unable to locate FEMA’s water and food drops, further hampering relief efforts.
The overwhelming sentiment among North Carolinians is that they’ve been left to fend for themselves. In the absence of timely government assistance, the people of North Carolina are showing resilience by relying on private citizens and communities to step in where federal agencies have failed. As recovery continues, the question remains: where is the leadership when Americans need it most?
