Trump Unveils National Garden of American Heroes to Honor Black Legends
New Monument to Celebrate Figures Like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Jackie Robinson.

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday the creation of the National Garden of American Heroes, a monumental tribute to generations of black legends who helped shape the nation. The announcement, made during a Black History Month ceremony in the East Room of the White House, highlighted Trump’s commitment to honoring America’s rich and diverse history as the country approaches its 250th anniversary.
“Today we pay tribute to the generations of black legends, champions, warriors, and patriots who help drive our country forward to greatness,” Trump said. “Americans are going to be celebrating something very important coming up our 250th anniversary, our nation’s founding, and when we do, we’re going to look forward to honoring the contributions of countless black Americans who fought to win and protect and expand American freedom.”
The National Garden of American Heroes will feature statues of influential black Americans, showcasing not only their impact on black history but also their integral roles in America’s broader story. Trump’s vision for the garden includes iconic figures such as:
Harriet Tubman–The courageous conductor of the Underground Railroad.
Rosa Parks–A symbol of the civil rights movement whose bravery sparked change.
Jackie Robinson–The legendary athlete who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier.
Frederick Douglass–The influential abolitionist and orator.
Martin Luther King Jr.–The civil rights leader whose dream of equality continues to inspire.
Muhammad Ali–The champion boxer and advocate for social justice.
Kobe Bryant–The basketball icon whose legacy transcends sports.
Trump also emphasized that the garden will include statues of lesser-known heroes like Prince Esterbrook, an enslaved man who became one of the first African Americans to fight in the Revolutionary War. “His legacy will endure and we’re very proud to honor him today,” Trump said, highlighting Esterbrook’s journey from enslavement to fighting for American independence.
Trump contrasted his administration’s approach with that of the previous administration, which he criticized for attempting to reduce American history to a single narrative focused on 1619 the year enslaved Africans first arrived in the American colonies. “Under our administration, we honor the indispensable role black Americans have always played in the immortal cause of another date, 1776,” he stated.
The president underscored the importance of recognizing these figures not just as black heroes, but as true American heroes whose stories inspire all Americans. “We pay tribute to these heroes and many others not simply because they’re black heroes, but also because they are truly American heroes who inspire all of us very much,” Trump said.
The National Garden of American Heroes will be an outdoor statue park featuring hundreds of America’s greatest figures, including countless black American icons. Trump shared that the administration is in the final stages of selecting a location for the garden, with multiple states competing to host the historic landmark.
The garden aims to create a lasting tribute to the visionaries, activists, and pioneers who defined the nation’s path to freedom and justice. Through beautifully crafted statues, the site will serve as a place of learning and inspiration for generations to come.
Trump’s initiative is part of a broader effort to preserve and celebrate the nation’s history, ensuring that the contributions of all Americans are recognized and honored. As the United States approaches its semiquincentennial in 2026, the National Garden of American Heroes stands to become a symbol of unity, progress, and pride in America’s shared heritage.
