Nancy Mace Aggressively Questions Cheatle, Calls His Answers 'Bulls***'

Rep. Mace aggressively confronts Secret Service Director over security failures in Trump assassination attempt.

In a fiery Capitol Hill confrontation, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) delivered a scathing line of questioning to Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle regarding the apparent security lapses that led to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. Mace opened her interrogation by bluntly asking Cheatle if she would use the time to draft her resignation letter, a request Cheatle rebuffed.

“The American people are watching, and they’re wondering if there are any questions you can answer honestly today. So, Director Cheatle, I have a series of questions — very specific questions — and I want very specific answers … Both sides of the aisle today have asked for your resignation. Would you like to use my five minutes to draft your resignation letter, yes or no?” Mace demanded.

“No thank you,” Cheatle replied.

Mace pressed on with a series of pointed questions:

  • "Was this a colossal failure, yes or no?" Cheatle eventually conceded, “Yes.”

  • "Was this tragedy preventable? Yes or no?" Cheatle admitted, “Yes.”

When Mace questioned the transparency of the Secret Service, noting the necessity of a subpoena to secure Cheatle's testimony, Cheatle claimed the agency had been transparent. Mace countered this claim by highlighting the subpoena and asking about leaks of Cheatle’s statement to the press before it was sent to the committee.

“Would you say leaking your opening statement to Punchbowl News, POLITICO and Washington Post several hours before you sent it to this committee as being political, yes or no?” Mace inquired.

Cheatle denied knowledge of the leak, prompting Mace to retort, “That’s bulls***,” clearly dissatisfied with the director’s response.

This intense exchange underscored the mounting frustration and demands for accountability from both sides of the political aisle. With Cheatle’s position increasingly precarious, the scrutiny over the Secret Service’s handling of the incident is set to continue.
