Musk and Ramaswamy Lead Trump’s Plan To Cut Government Waste
DOGE promises to tackle inefficiency and fraud in federal spending.
President-elect Donald Trump has unveiled a bold initiative to tackle one of Washington’s oldest problems: government waste and inefficiency. The newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will serve as an advisory body tasked with streamlining federal operations and cutting excessive spending. Leading this revolutionary effort are Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and tech innovator, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate.
Crowdsourcing Talent Through X
In a move emblematic of Musk’s unconventional style, DOGE is crowdsourcing resumes directly on X, the social media platform Musk owns. A post from DOGE’s official account laid out the vision and requirements for prospective team members:
Commitment: Candidates must be ready to work “80+ hours per week.”
Focus: The job will center on “unglamorous cost-cutting,” a sharp contrast to traditional government roles.
Qualifications: Only “super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries” need apply.
“We don’t need more part-time idea generators,” the post read. “Elon & Vivek will review the top 1% of applicants.” The innovative recruitment method has already drawn thousands of responses, signaling widespread interest in transforming how the federal government operates.
Trump’s Vision for DOGE
The president-elect likened DOGE’s mission to the Manhattan Project, the World War II initiative that developed the atomic bomb, underscoring the transformative potential of the department. Trump emphasized the urgency of reform, pointing to the federal government’s annual $6.5 trillion spending as rife with opportunities for savings.
“I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans,” Trump said.
Proven Leaders of Change
Elon Musk has already demonstrated his ability to streamline operations and eliminate inefficiencies. After acquiring X in 2022 for $44 billion, Musk reduced the platform’s workforce by 80%, cutting approximately 6,000 employees while maintaining its core functionality. This hands-on approach to cost-cutting aligns perfectly with DOGE’s mission.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a staunch advocate for small government, brings a sharp, policy-driven perspective to the team. After endorsing Trump following his own presidential bid, Ramaswamy committed to the shared goal of making Washington more accountable to the American people.
A Historic Deadline
Trump has given DOGE a clear and ambitious deadline: July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. By this date, Musk and Ramaswamy are expected to deliver actionable recommendations to reduce waste, eradicate fraud, and make the government truly accountable.
“DOGE will deliver our nation the birthday gift of a government that’s actually accountable to its people, rather than the other way around,” Ramaswamy said.
A Movement for Accountability
As critics question the feasibility of such sweeping reforms, DOGE’s approach is already shaking up the status quo. By crowdsourcing talent and leveraging the expertise of proven disruptors like Musk and Ramaswamy, Trump’s administration is sending a clear message: Washington’s bloated bureaucracy is no longer untouchable.
This initiative represents more than just cost-cutting it’s a movement to realign government with the values and priorities of the American people.
