Miyares Calls for Jay Jones to Drop Out Over Ongoing Criminal Probe

Court filing reveals deeper investigation into Jones’ reckless driving case as questions mount over ethics and conduct.

Virginia’s Attorney General Jason Miyares is calling on his Democratic challenger, Jay Jones, to immediately withdraw from the race following the bombshell revelation that Jones’ reckless driving case remains under active criminal investigation.

A newly surfaced court filing in New Kent County indicates that Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick requested to be recused from the case a move typically signaling the presence of an ongoing or renewed criminal probe. The order, signed by Circuit Judge B. Elliott Bondurant, grants the recusal and assigns a special prosecutor from a neighboring jurisdiction.

“It is not possible for Jay Jones to fulfill the duties of the attorney general while under an open criminal investigation,” Miyares said. “If Jay stays in the race, it shows a contempt for voters never seen in modern Virginia political history.”

The case stems from a 2023 incident in which Jones was cited for driving 116 mph on I-64, a reckless speed that could have landed an average Virginian behind bars. But Jones a former delegate and failed 2021 AG candidate managed to avoid jail time, instead receiving 1,000 hours of community service and a $1,500 fine. Now, serious questions are being raised about how those hours were completed and whether the courts were misled.

Among the most troubling revelations:

  • 500 of Jones’ community service hours were logged through his own political action committee, MOMPAC a glaring ethical conflict.

  • The remaining hours were attributed to the NAACP of Virginia, with no public documentation of actual time logs.

  • A Freedom of Information Act request has been filed to determine the extent of communication between these entities and the New Kent County court.

Even more disturbing, Miyares points to past controversies involving Jones, including leaked text messages where Jones fantasized about murdering Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert. “He has not taken accountability for his words or actions,” Miyares emphasized.

The judge’s order, filed under Commonwealth v. Jerrauld C. Jones, authorizes James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan R. Green to assume full prosecutorial authority in the case signaling that something much more serious may be brewing behind the scenes.

Renick cited a “potential conflict” without specifying the nature of the issue, and officials at the court have refused to comment further.

This scandal has the potential to upend the Virginia attorney general race, with Miyares’ campaign gaining momentum as Jones continues to duck accountability. While the corporate media turns a blind eye to Democrats embroiled in corruption, Miyares is making clear that Virginians deserve transparency, not cover-ups.

With the Democratic Party already drowning in ethics scandals and Biden’s Justice Department under fire for political double standards, Jones’ refusal to drop out of the race only underscores the arrogance and entitlement that have come to define today’s Left.
