Minneapolis Mayor Blames Trump, Defends Protests After ICE Shooting
Jacob Frey slams immigration enforcement as ‘unconstitutional’ while downplaying violent unrest in his city.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is once again playing politics with public safety this time defending mass protests following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer, while blaming the Trump administration for what he calls “unconstitutional conduct.”
In an exclusive interview with Fox & Friends, Frey claimed the city has seen “tens of thousands” of peaceful protesters, even as demonstrations have gridlocked traffic, obstructed federal operations, and escalated tensions with law enforcement.
“They are going to stand up for their neighbors,” Frey said, in a comment that appeared to justify the protests sparked by Good’s death.
Good, 37, was shot by an ICE agent last Wednesday in Minneapolis after she allegedly struck the officer with her vehicle during an enforcement operation. Federal officials say the agent fired in self-defense, and Trump administration officials have labeled her actions as “domestic terrorism.”
But Frey and other Democratic leaders aren’t buying it. Instead of backing law enforcement, Frey is accusing ICE agents of unconstitutional behavior and attacking the surge of federal immigration officers deployed to Minnesota.
“What is new is the way that the Trump administration is presently conducting themselves,” Frey said. “I absolutely oppose the way that this administration is conducting themselves with us.”
Frey claims there are now roughly 3,000 federal agents from ICE and border control operating in Minneapolis compared to just 600 local police officers a number he says is putting the city under duress.
Here’s what Frey didn’t say:
Good reportedly had ties to radical anti-ICE activist groups operating in Minneapolis.
Video footage shows her vehicle hitting the ICE officer before he fired his weapon.
ICE has confirmed an internal and federal investigation is underway, per standard protocol.
While Frey insists he doesn’t support abolishing ICE, he’s doing everything in his power to undermine the agency’s credibility and authority, even as illegal immigration and cartel activity surge across the country.
Border encounters have surpassed 8 million under Biden, with tens of thousands of violent offenders slipping through.
Gang-linked arrests, including members of Tren de Aragua and MS-13, have skyrocketed in U.S. cities like Minneapolis.
DHS confirmed earlier this year that ICE agents have been physically targeted during operations by activists emboldened by sanctuary policies.
Yet, instead of backing federal agents who risk their lives to uphold immigration law, Frey is busy blaming the Trump administration for enforcing the very laws he swore to uphold.
“ICE is not new. Our separation ordinance in the city is not new,” Frey said. “What is new is the way that the Trump administration is presently conducting themselves.”
This isn’t about policy it’s about priorities. And when those priorities involve appeasing the mob, demonizing federal agents, and enabling lawlessness under the guise of “peaceful protest,” don’t be surprised when cities like Minneapolis become unrecognizable.
Frey is more concerned about optics than order and the American people see right through it.
