Mike Waltz Refutes Claims That USAID Cuts Benefit China and Russia
Says taxpayer dollars are being wasted on programs that don’t serve US interests.

National security adviser Mike Waltz dismissed claims that reducing USAID funding would allow China and Russia to expand their influence, arguing that the agency has long been a bloated bureaucracy misusing taxpayer dollars.
During an interview on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Waltz pushed back against criticism that cutting USAID would weaken America’s global standing. He made it clear that the Trump administration’s focus is on ensuring every dollar spent aligns with strategic U.S. interests.
Waltz pointed out that USAID frequently funds projects that do nothing to counter adversaries like China and Russia.
He emphasized that much of the money never reaches those in need, instead getting lost in layers of contractors and bureaucrats.
He recounted firsthand experience in the Middle East, where a USAID-funded radio station ended up broadcasting anti-American propaganda backed by Iran.
“We need to take a hard look at it,” Waltz said. “We need to move quickly. And that’s exactly what’s being done.”
The Trump administration’s stance is clear: American foreign aid should serve American interests, not fund wasteful projects or programs that undermine U.S. security. Waltz’s remarks expose a long-standing problem USAID has been operating without proper oversight, and now, real accountability is finally being enforced.
The left’s argument that cutting wasteful foreign aid somehow benefits China and Russia is just another scare tactic to protect the status quo. In reality, ensuring that every U.S. dollar serves American interests is the only way to maintain real global influence.
