Mia Love, Former Utah Congresswoman, Passes Away at 49 After Brain Cancer Fight

Mia Love’s legacy of leadership and faith endures as she passes after a three-year fight against aggressive brain cancer.

Former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love, a trailblazer and proud Republican voice, has passed away at the young age of 49 after a nearly three-year battle with glioblastoma, one of the deadliest forms of brain cancer. Love, known for her unshakable faith and principled leadership, died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Her family announced her passing with heartfelt words, sharing how Mia “quietly slipped the bands of mortality” while surrounded by love and memories. It’s a bittersweet farewell to a woman who shattered barriers and refused to be silenced by adversity.

Mia Love made history as the first black Republican woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Representing Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019, Love was a fierce advocate for policies that prioritized tax reform, economic opportunity, and public safety key pillars often neglected under Democrat leadership.

Before stepping onto the national stage, Love served as mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, where she led with common sense and a dedication to community values. She championed conservative principles throughout her career, refusing to be boxed in by identity politics so often weaponized by the Left.

Even after losing her 2018 re-election bid by a razor-thin margin of under 700 votes, Love never backed down. She continued to voice her convictions in national media, including as a commentator and guest on prominent talk shows.

Despite her diagnosis in 2022, Mia’s fighting spirit never dimmed. She candidly discussed her prognosis last year, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper that her faith and family were her sources of strength. “I was looking for a cure in my faith and in science,” she shared, underscoring the importance of faith over fear. Her unwavering optimism offered a stark contrast to the pessimism and divisiveness pushed by many in today’s political arena.

Consider these facts:

  • Glioblastoma has a median survival rate of just 15 months, a testament to Love’s nearly three-year courageous battle.

  • Love was one of only a handful of Republicans to win a congressional seat in a district where Democrats typically dominate, proving conservative values resonate far and wide.

  • Utah consistently ranks as one of the top states for economic growth and opportunity thanks in part to leaders like Love who prioritized fiscal responsibility and public safety.

In her final months, as her condition worsened, her daughter publicly shared the family’s decision to focus on cherishing every remaining moment. Utah’s legislature honored Mia for her tireless public service and groundbreaking achievements, a recognition of her unrelenting dedication to her constituents.

Mia Love’s legacy is more than political. It’s a testament to conviction, strength, and an unyielding belief in the American dream qualities glaringly absent in today's Democrat leadership. As the 2024 election approaches, may her story remind us of the importance of electing leaders who stand for something more than empty promises.
