Marsha Blackburn Mulls Run for Governor of Tennessee

Popular conservative senator poised to bring Trump-aligned leadership to state government.

Tennessee’s political landscape may see a major shake-up as Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) considers entering the 2026 gubernatorial race. The conservative powerhouse, who just secured reelection to the Senate by an overwhelming 30-point margin, is reportedly making moves to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Bill Lee.

Blackburn, a staunch ally of President-elect Donald Trump, has built a career championing conservative values. First elected to the Senate in 2018, she defeated Democratic heavyweight Phil Bredesen by over 10 points. In 2024, she expanded her margin of victory, crushing challenger Gloria Johnson with 63.8% of the vote.

On Election Night, Blackburn credited Tennesseans for her success, stating, “This victory belongs to the people of Tennessee… They’ve given us a clear to-do list: rebuild the economy, make Trump’s tax cuts permanent, and secure the southern border.”

Her Senate record includes:

  • Advocating for tougher immigration laws, including building the border wall.

  • Pushing back against transgender ideology and defending women’s sports.

  • Supporting measures to hold Big Tech accountable for protecting children online.

Though Blackburn has not formally announced her candidacy, sources in Washington, D.C., and Tennessee report she is likely to enter the race. Early endorsements signal strong support for her bid.

“Senator Blackburn has done an outstanding job… She would do an equally outstanding job as governor,” said Glenn Jacobs, the former WWE star and current Knox County Mayor, on social media. Jacobs had been rumored as a potential candidate himself but appears to have ruled out a run in favor of Blackburn.

Blackburn also enjoys the backing of prominent Tennessee conservatives, including Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing and commentator Clay Travis. “Marsha Blackburn will make a great Tennessee governor,” Travis said.

If Blackburn enters the race, she may face competition from other prominent Republicans, including Reps. John Rose and Mark Green, State House Speaker Cameron Sexton, and Secretary of State Tre Hargett. However, her broad appeal, national profile, and proven track record would make her a formidable candidate in the GOP primary.

As Tennesseans await Blackburn’s official decision, her potential gubernatorial campaign could set the tone for the state’s political future. With her unwavering commitment to conservative principles and her strong connection to Trump-era policies, Blackburn is well-positioned to lead Tennessee into its next chapter.
