Luigi Mangione Explodes in Court After Trial Date Set
Accused corporate assassin lashes out as Democrats bungle legal coordination between state and federal prosecutions.

Luigi Mangione, the man accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, unleashed a courtroom tirade after a Manhattan judge suddenly set a June 8 date for his state-level murder trial despite an overlapping federal case that’s also underway.
As Mangione was being led out of court, he shouted, “This is double jeopardy by any common sense definition.” For once, he’s not entirely wrong.
This legal circus is exactly what happens when weak Democratic leadership turns even the most serious of criminal proceedings into a disjointed, bureaucratic mess.
Mangione faces multiple charges in both state and federal courts, including second-degree murder, in connection to the December 2024 assassination.
His federal trial is scheduled to begin September 8, with opening statements on October 13.
A federal judge recently dropped the murder charge that carried the death penalty, citing that stalking is not a “crime of violence” a decision even she admitted was “strange.”
Apparently, in Joe Biden’s America, stalking no longer qualifies as violent, even when it ends with a bullet. This isn’t justice it’s a legal system that’s lost its grip on common sense.
Mangione’s defense attorney called the situation a “tug-of-war between two different prosecution offices,” and that the team wouldn't be ready by June 8. Judge Gregory Carro responded coldly: “Be ready.”
Meanwhile, the judge overseeing the federal case, U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett, ruled that stalking wasn’t violent enough to justify a capital charge. This is the kind of ivory tower logic that emboldens criminals and weakens the justice system for the rest of us.
Let’s be clear: there’s one victim here and it’s not Mangione. It’s the murdered CEO, Brian Thompson, and his family, who are now caught in the crossfire of competing prosecutions. Prosecutors warn that if the federal trial comes first, New York law might bar a state trial altogether due to double jeopardy concerns. That’s why Assistant District Attorney Joel Seidemann pushed for the state case to move ahead.
Judge Carro rightly criticized the federal government’s betrayal, saying, “It appears the federal government has reneged on its agreement to let the state... go first.”
Why the sudden shift? Maybe the Biden DOJ doesn’t want the state’s work to see the light of day or maybe they’re just incapable of coordinating a complex legal case without it imploding. Either way, this chaos is the result of Democrat incompetence at every level.
Meanwhile, investigators say Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, with a 9mm handgun tied to the crime scene and a notebook allegedly detailing plans to assassinate Thompson. At least the evidence isn’t going anywhere both courts ruled it can be used.
While the feds fumble and fight over legal definitions, one thing is clear: this isn’t about justice anymore. It’s about who can cover their backside first.
