Lee Zeldin Officially Confirmed as EPA Administrator Under Trump
Former congressman set to lead major deregulatory push for American industry.
Lee Zeldin has officially been confirmed as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator, marking another key victory for President Donald Trump’s second-term agenda. The GOP-led Senate approved Zeldin’s nomination in a 56-42 vote on Wednesday, with three Democrats John Fetterman (PA), Ruben Gallego (AZ), and Mark Kelly (AZ) breaking ranks to support him.
Thank You to the 56 Senators for your vote and confidence," Zeldin posted on X. "Grateful to President Trump for having the faith in me to be part of his Cabinet as (EPA) Administrator. Make America Great Again!"
Zeldin, a former congressman from New York, is known for his America First policies and tough stance against excessive government regulation. He ran a strong gubernatorial campaign in New York in 2022, nearly flipping the deep-blue state, and has remained a prominent voice in Republican politics.
President Trump nominated Zeldin back in November, making it clear that his selection was about reducing bureaucratic overreach and unleashing economic growth while maintaining high environmental standards.
"Lee, with a very strong legal background, has been a true fighter for America First policies," Trump said in a statement. "He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet."
Zeldin becomes the seventh Cabinet member confirmed in Trump’s second term, following key figures such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. However, Democrats are still working to slow down the confirmation process, forcing procedural votes in an attempt to obstruct Trump’s administration.
Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) slammed the delay tactics, pointing out that Barack Obama had 22 nominees confirmed by this point in his presidency, while Trump has only secured 7.
"Pres. Trump needs his full team in place to help make America great again," Scott posted on X. "We won’t stop until every last nominee is confirmed."
With Zeldin at the helm of the EPA, Americans can expect a sharp pivot away from Biden’s heavy-handed climate agenda, putting energy independence, economic growth, and common-sense environmental policies back at the forefront.
