Lankford Warns China No Green Light to Invade Taiwan

Senator Says Trump’s Ukraine Stance Does Not Signal U.S. Weakness.

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) issued a strong warning to China over the weekend, making it clear that Beijing should not misinterpret President Donald Trump’s approach to Ukraine as a sign of U.S. weakness toward Taiwan.

Speaking with NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Lankford shut down speculation that Trump’s fiery Oval Office exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meant the U.S. was backing away from its global commitments.

“If China somehow receives that, they’re receiving the exact wrong message,” Lankford said. “The United States stands with our ally Taiwan, and we, like the rest of the world, want to see peace in that region.”

Lankford reinforced that Trump is not abandoning Ukraine but is pushing for a realistic resolution to a war that has turned into “World War I-like trench warfare.”

“We’ve seen Putin’s aggression. Countries around him have seen that,” Lankford stated, describing the Russian leader as a “murderous KGB thug.” However, with the war at a stalemate, he said it is time to push for negotiations.

Lankford emphasized that Trump’s goal is not surrender but an end to the fighting. “We need to get these two folks at the table … to something that may look like North and South Korea for a long time, but not an active war.”

Lankford dismissed left-wing fears that Trump’s strategy signals a retreat from global leadership, explaining that the administration is prioritizing diplomacy over endless war.

  • Trump met with Zelensky first–Despite media hysteria about Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lankford noted that Trump prioritized his meeting with Zelensky.

  • The U.S. will not send troops to Ukraine–Lankford reinforced Trump’s stance that “the United States is not willing to put troops on the ground.”

  • Trump’s leadership is about negotiation, not escalation–“He wants to get both sides to the table and get an end to the fighting and the death,” Lankford said.

Lankford’s message to China was clear: Taiwan is not Ukraine, and any invasion attempt would be met with serious consequences.

While the Biden administration’s weak foreign policy has emboldened adversaries, Trump’s clear, no-nonsense approach is restoring American strength on the world stage.

China may have tested Biden, but it would be a grave mistake to test Trump.
