Labor Day BBQ Costs Soar Under Biden-Harris Administration

Skyrocketing Food Prices Make Traditional Celebrations a Painful Reminder of Economic Mismanagement.

As families across America fire up their grills for Labor Day, they’re feeling the financial pinch of skyrocketing food prices under the Biden-Harris administration. What was once a simple, affordable backyard barbecue has become a costly affair, with the price of staple foods surging dramatically since January 2021.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of essential barbecue items has climbed steeply:

  • Ground beef is up 26%

  • Hot dogs have risen by 25%

  • Chicken prices have jumped 23%

  • Biscuits are up 28%

  • Beer costs have increased 16%

  • Lettuce is up 21%

  • Condiments have surged 24%

These price hikes are part of a broader inflationary trend that began almost immediately after President Biden and Vice President Harris took office. When former President Trump left the White House in January 2021, the inflation rate was a manageable 1.4%. However, the rate quickly escalated under the new administration, hitting 2.6% in March 2021, 5.4% in July 2021, and a staggering 9.1% by June 2022. It wasn’t until June 2023—two and a half years into the Biden-Harris administration—that inflation finally dipped back down to 3.0%.

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry laid the blame squarely on the administration’s reckless spending policies. “The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the inaptly-named Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and the 2021 Thrifty Food Plan Re-evaluation combined to increase federal spending by trillions,” the committee noted. This influx of money into an already fragile economy “overheated consumer demand and contributed to historic inflationary pressure.”

Since January 2021, consumer prices have increased nearly 20%, driven primarily by spikes in food, transportation, energy, and housing costs. The cumulative effect has created the highest inflationary period since the Carter administration.

Even CNN, typically sympathetic to the Biden administration, couldn’t ignore the pain that Americans are feeling. In a May interview, CNN’s Erin Burnett confronted President Biden with the hard truth: “Grocery prices are up 30 percent, more than 30 percent since the beginning of the pandemic, and people are spending more on food and groceries than they have at any time really in the past 30 years.”

Biden’s response? A dismissive comment that people “have the money to spend,” suggesting that the president is out of touch with the day-to-day struggles of American families.

As we celebrate Labor Day, the harsh reality is that the traditional backyard barbecue has become a painful reminder of the economic mismanagement that has plagued the nation under Biden and Harris. For many, the holiday will be spent not just grilling, but also grimacing at the cost.
