Kyrsten Sinema Sued for Alleged Affair With Married Security Guard
Explosive lawsuit accuses former senator of “malicious interference” in marriage under North Carolina’s “Homewrecker Law.”

Disgraced former Senator Kyrsten Sinema is now facing a bombshell lawsuit and it's not political. It's personal.
Sinema, who left office in 2025 after years of controversy and a collapsing political base, has been sued in North Carolina under its “alienation of affection” statute, one of the few remaining “homewrecker” laws in the country. The lawsuit, filed by Heather Ammel, accuses Sinema of deliberately and maliciously interfering in a marriage between Heather and Matthew Ammel a former Army veteran who served as Sinema’s personal security guard and later worked for her Senate office.
According to the court filing, the Ammels’ marriage was “good and loving” until Sinema allegedly inserted herself into their lives. Heather Ammel claims Sinema engaged in a prolonged romantic relationship with her husband that ultimately destroyed their marriage, beginning as early as 2023 and intensifying throughout 2024.
Here’s what the lawsuit alleges:
Sinema and Ammel exchanged frequent romantic and sexual messages across multiple platforms, including Signal and text, that went well beyond a working relationship.
They reportedly traveled together extensively, attended concerts, and even spent nights alone under the pretense of security assignments.
Sinema was allegedly “handsy” in public with Ammel, including during the Extra Innings Festival and a U2 concert, despite him still being married at the time.
One particularly egregious claim: Sinema allegedly encouraged Ammel to bring MDMA (ecstasy) on a work trip so she could guide him through a psychedelic experience, citing her advocacy for mental health.
Ammel reportedly stopped wearing his wedding ring and told his wife it was to “avoid bad optics” while Sinema was “putting her hands on a married man.”
Sinema’s behavior, as detailed in the lawsuit, paints a stunning picture of ethical and personal recklessness all while serving as a sitting U.S. senator. The complaint even includes disturbing messages where Sinema mocked President Biden, saying she didn’t attend the State of the Union because she didn’t need to “listen to some old man … talk about the legislation that she wrote.”
The most jaw-dropping exchange? Ammel reportedly joked about starting a “F*** the troops” chant at a baseball game, to which Sinema allegedly replied she would “f*** the hot ones.”
Beyond the moral rot, there may be serious legal consequences. North Carolina allows lawsuits for alienation of affection if a third party is proven to have intentionally destroyed a marriage. The plaintiff is seeking over $25,000 in damages, though cases like this often carry far greater reputational consequences.
Ammel, an Army veteran with PTSD, is said to have struggled during this period. Sinema, now employed at global law firm Hogan Lovells, has not publicly commented. Notably, the Phoenix New Times reported earlier this year on Sinema’s deepening ties to psychedelic advocacy, citing Ammel’s own experience with such substances.
Meanwhile, public records suggest that a man by the same name was arrested in Moore County, NC, for assault in November though it remains unconfirmed whether it’s the same Matthew Ammel.
For a former senator who once billed herself as a bipartisan maverick, this scandal is a crash landing the final chapter in a career marked by vanity, betrayal, and now, alleged infidelity.
