Kamala Harris Takes Shots at Trump and Musk in NAACP Speech

Failed VP Signals She’s Not Done with Politics.

In yet another reminder that Democrats simply can't let go of the past, former Vice President Kamala Harris used her acceptance speech at the NAACP Image Awards to swipe at President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. The event, held in Pasadena, California, was supposed to celebrate Harris for the Chairman’s Award, an honor recognizing excellence in public service. Instead, it became a platform for veiled political jabs and setting the stage for her potential political comeback.

Harris, who suffered a crushing defeat alongside Joe Biden in the 2024 election, painted a grim picture of America’s future under Trump’s leadership, stating, “Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask ‘What do we do now?’” She attempted to rally the audience with her usual rhetoric about organizing and mobilizing, but it all felt like a rehash of the same empty promises and platitudes that failed to resonate with voters last fall.

  • Not-So-Subtle Jabs: Harris indirectly criticized Trump and Elon Musk, who currently heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), saying, “This chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office nor by the wealthiest among us.”

  • Preparing for a Comeback: Despite her defeat, Harris, 60, has reportedly been keeping her political options open. Speculation suggests she might aim for the California governorship in 2026 or even make a presidential bid in 2028.

  • Hollywood Moves: Harris recently signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), aligning herself with the same talent group as former Presidents Biden and Obama. It appears she's positioning herself for a media-heavy revival, perhaps focusing more on celebrity status than concrete policy ideas.

Harris’ former adviser, Symone Sanders, hinted at her return to the political arena, saying, “I don’t think the world has seen the last of Vice President Kamala Harris.” If this NAACP speech was any indication, Harris seems eager to maintain relevance, but it remains to be seen if the American public is interested in what she has to offer.

Trump’s victory in 2024 came with a clear message: Americans wanted leadership focused on results, not rhetoric. If Harris plans to challenge that mandate, she’ll need more than Hollywood glitz and recycled talking points.
