Kamala Harris Set for CNN Interview, Will Be Joined by Tim Walz

VP Harris, joined by Tim Walz, attempts to address criticism after avoiding media for over a month.

After 39 days of media silence, Vice President Kamala Harris has finally agreed to sit down for an interview. This Thursday, Harris will join Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in a conversation with CNN anchor Dana Bash. However, the decision to participate in a pre-taped interview rather than a live discussion has already drawn criticism, particularly from conservative circles.

  • Media Evasion: Since being thrust into the spotlight as the Democrats' de facto presidential nominee after President Joe Biden's exit from the 2024 race, Harris has been notably absent from the media. This avoidance has not gone unnoticed, with the Trump campaign highlighting her lack of engagement, suggesting that Harris's reliance on a joint interview indicates she is "not competent enough to do it on her own."

  • CNN's Bias: The choice of Dana Bash as the interviewer raises eyebrows as well. Bash has a history of leaning in favor of the Democratic narrative, recently seen when she glossed over the Biden administration's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal by shifting blame onto former President Trump. Bash's selective praise for Biden's comments on the release of American hostages in Russia—without addressing the factual inaccuracies—only cements her reputation as a biased figure.

  • Kamala's Track Record: Harris's previous interviews have often backfired, even when conducted with networks sympathetic to the Democratic Party. In a notable 2021 exchange with NBC's Lester Holt, Harris deflected questions about her failure to visit the southern border, despite being tasked by Biden to address illegal immigration. Her flippant response, comparing the situation to not visiting Europe, was widely criticized for its tone-deafness.

President Trump has consistently criticized Harris for her reluctance to face the media, arguing that she avoids interviews because she "can’t answer questions." With the possibility of future debates between the two, the pressure is mounting on Harris to prove her competency on the national stage.

As the 2024 election looms, it remains to be seen whether this interview will help Harris regain control of her narrative or further expose her weaknesses. Given the nature of the pre-taped format, many are skeptical that the interview will do anything more than reinforce the perception that Harris is ill-prepared for the challenges ahead.
