Kamala Faces Backlash for Supporting Far-Left Protester’s Gaza ‘Genocide’ Claim
Harris faces backlash for validating extreme claims against Israel, as critics warn her remarks undermine U.S. foreign policy.
Vice President Kamala Harris is under fire for agreeing with a far-left protester who accused Israel of committing “genocide” in its war against Hamas. The incident occurred during a speech at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where a pro-Hamas activist interrupted Harris, demanding that she acknowledge the conflict in Gaza as genocide.
When the protester shouted, “Billions of dollars in genocide,” Harris responded, “I want the ceasefire. I want the war to end. And I respect your right to speak.” While she didn’t directly endorse the “genocide” label, her validation of the protester’s claims has sparked outrage.
Critics were quick to react, condemning Harris for her leniency towards Hamas propaganda:
David Friedman, former U.S. ambassador to Israel, slammed Harris on X, saying her “validation of this ugly genocide charge is ignorant, malign, and thoroughly disqualifying for any public office, let alone the presidency!”
Michael Oren, former Israeli ambassador to the U.S., warned that Harris' remarks set “a very dangerous precedent.” Oren called on the White House to issue a full denial of the genocide accusation.
Even President Biden, who has occasionally critiqued Israel's military actions, has not gone as far as labeling Israel's defense against Hamas as genocide. The protester referenced casualty numbers published by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, a source widely regarded as unreliable and politically motivated. The figure of "19,000 children dead" has been heavily disputed, with no independent verification to support it.
This incident highlights the growing influence of far-left anti-Israel rhetoric within the Democratic Party, which could further alienate moderate voters and undermine the Biden administration’s already delicate position on Israel. For Harris, it represents another major gaffe that may follow her as Election Day looms.
