Pro Wrestling Legend John Cena Plans 2025 Retirement
WWE Superstar Plans Farewell Tour Before Final Match at WrestleMania 41.
Professional wrestler John Cena has announced his retirement from pro wrestling, set to take place after his final match at WWE WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas next year. The 47-year-old athlete and actor made the announcement during an emotional speech at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
“Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years,” Cena said to the crowd, expressing his gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career.
The 16-time WWE champion also revealed plans for a farewell tour with dozens of dates leading up to his retirement. This tour will allow fans to see Cena in action one last time before he steps out of the ring for good.
“I hear a mixed opinion out there. A lot of questions maybe, right? Like, why here? I want to talk about that for a second. I want to talk about Toronto. Matter of fact, I want to talk about Canada. Matter of fact, I want to talk about Canadians,” Cena said during his speech, according to US Weekly.
Cena reflected on his two-decade-long career in WWE, noting the highs and lows he experienced. “I’ve been doing this a while. I’ve been in WWE for over two decades and in that time I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town, no doubt.”
He continued, “And I’ve also seen tremendous hardship and that’s when nobody knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated, hardcore fans stand by your side.”
“So in all those years, one of the most important, one of the most impressive things that I learned was whether the WWE was hot or cold, Canadians always show up,” Cena concluded, paying tribute to the loyalty of his Canadian fans.
Cena rose to mainstream fame with his "Doctor of Thuganomics" persona, known for wearing gold chains and engaging in rap battles, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter. Beyond wrestling, Cena has built a successful acting career, appearing in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, the comedy thriller “Argylle,” and last year’s blockbuster hit, “Barbie.” He also had a guest role in season three of “The Bear” and is set to host Discovery’s Shark Week 2024 programming.
As Cena prepares to retire from the ring, his legacy in both wrestling and entertainment is firmly established. His farewell tour and final match at WrestleMania 41 will mark the end of an era for WWE and its fans.
