Jim Jordan Moves to Defund Nationwide Injunctions That Obstruct Trump Policies

GOP aims to rein in activist judges using taxpayer money to sabotage the executive branch.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan is fighting back against a growing weaponization of the courts by activist judges this time, by targeting the funding that enables them to obstruct President Trump’s agenda.

In a March 31 letter, Jordan called on congressional appropriators to use the upcoming federal funding bills to strip taxpayer dollars from federal courts issuing nationwide injunctions that have repeatedly blocked Trump administration policies. These overreaching judicial orders, often handed down by liberal judges in blue districts, have been used as blunt-force political tools to halt executive actions across the country.

Jordan’s demand is clear: End the abuse, restore the constitutional balance, and stop footing the bill for judicial overreach.

Jordan’s Proposal in Focus

  • Prohibit federal funding from being used to issue or enforce broad injunctions that go beyond the specific plaintiffs in a given case.

  • Defund court activities tied to these rulings like fines, contempt proceedings, or compliance enforcement when they exceed their legal jurisdiction.

  • Support the “No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025,” which would prevent single district court judges from issuing sweeping national injunctions.

More than a dozen such injunctions have already been issued in the early months of Trump’s second term, with federal judges blocking key initiatives like the Department of Government Efficiency’s reform plans and even the use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport known Venezuelan gang members.

This isn’t about oversight it’s sabotage.

“There is clearly a potential constitutional crisis involving the judicial branch’s effort to fully override the legislative and executive branches,” warned former House Speaker Newt Gingrich during a Tuesday hearing titled Judicial Overreach and Constitutional Limits on the Federal Courts.

Jordan’s proposal doesn’t just rein in rogue judges it puts unelected ideologues on notice. The judiciary is supposed to interpret laws, not wage war against duly elected leaders. It’s time to reestablish the separation of powers and end the judicial activism that's been plaguing our government since Trump first took office.

Democrats, of course, are already panicking. House Judiciary Democrats lashed out on X, accusing Republicans of trying to “punish the judges instead of following the law.” But the truth is simple: when courts become partisan tools, Congress has both the authority and the duty to check their power.

This is a fight to preserve our republic from a judiciary that increasingly acts like a fourth branch of government one that no one voted for.
