JD Vance Slams Kamala Harris After Her Brief DNC Appearance
Vance mocks Harris' record while taking aim at Democrats' handling of crime.
Senator JD Vance (R-OH) didn’t waste any time going after Vice President Kamala Harris following her surprise appearance on the first night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Harris, who spoke briefly at the event, is gearing up to accept the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nomination, a position she ascended to just a month ago after President Joe Biden was effectively pushed out of the race.
Vance, who is campaigning as Donald Trump’s running mate, took to X to mock Harris’ tenure as vice president. "Kamala Harris spoke for 2 minutes last night at the DNC, which was enough time for her to list all of her successes as Vice President and still have a minute and 45 seconds to kill," Vance quipped. The jab was a clear dig at Harris’ perceived lack of accomplishments during her time in office, a criticism that has dogged her throughout her political career.
But Vance didn’t stop there. While campaigning in Wisconsin, he turned his attention to Harris’ running mate, Governor Tim Walz (D-MN). During a speech in Kenosha focused on crime, Vance criticized Democrats for their leniency on crime and their failure to act decisively during left-wing riots. He also took a shot at Walz’s exaggerated claims about his military service.
"My little theory about why they decided to have the convention in Chicago: Tim Walz has been going around saying that he served in the war and maybe they did it in Chicago so he could accurately say he visited a combat zone," Vance joked, referencing Chicago’s notorious crime rates.
Vance’s remarks were intended to highlight what many conservatives see as the hypocrisy and failures of the Democratic leadership, particularly in addressing crime and maintaining public safety. His comments also underscore the growing tensions as the 2024 election season heats up, with both sides sharpening their attacks.
As the DNC continues, Republicans like Vance are likely to keep the pressure on Harris and her running mate, emphasizing their record — or lack thereof — as a key point of contention.
