Vice President-Elect JD Vance Resigns From Senate Ahead Of Inauguration

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expected to appoint replacement as Vance prepares to help Trump reshape America.

Vice President-elect JD Vance has officially resigned from his Senate seat, marking the next step in his transition to the White House alongside President-elect Donald Trump. The resignation takes effect at midnight, just days before Trump and Vance take office on January 20.

In his farewell statement, Vance expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ohio, emphasizing his commitment to the America First policies that propelled him to national prominence.

“The American people have granted President Trump an undeniable mandate to put America first, both at home and abroad,” Vance said. “Over the next four years, I will do all that I can to help President Trump enact his agenda. Together, we will make America stronger, safer, and more prosperous than ever before.”

Vance, who defeated Democrat Tim Ryan in 2022, was elected to serve a six-year term, but his rapid rise has positioned him as a key player in the Trump administration’s efforts to rebuild America.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is expected to appoint a temporary replacement, with several top names circulating:

  • Lt. Gov. Jon Husted – A strong contender after meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago last month.

  • Former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken – A Trump ally with deep party connections.

  • Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose – Known for pushing election integrity efforts.

  • Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH) – A loyal conservative voice in the House.

The permanent replacement for the seat will be decided in a special election in 2026.

Vance isn’t the only high-profile lawmaker making the transition to the Trump administration. Others joining the team include:

  • Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) – Secretary of State.

  • Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) – National Security Adviser.

  • Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) – U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.

Vance sealed his Senate legacy with a final vote on the “Laken Riley Act,” a critical piece of legislation that requires federal officials to arrest illegal immigrants charged with theft-related crimes. The vote underscores his commitment to law and order one that will continue in Trump’s second term.

With Trump and Vance set to take office, America is about to see a bold return to strong leadership, economic strength, and national security.
