JD Vance Shares Why He Avoids Teleprompters, Taking a Jab at Kamala

Ohio Senator mocks Harris for relying on scripted remarks, highlights his readiness for the VP role.

During a recent campaign stop, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) took a jab at Vice President Kamala Harris while explaining why he doesn’t rely on a teleprompter, highlighting a sharp contrast between his off-the-cuff speaking style and Harris’s more scripted approach. Vance, who is vying to become Vice President under former President Donald Trump, used the opportunity to underscore his readiness for the role and his ability to think on his feet.

At the event, an audience member called out, “Where’s your teleprompter?” Vance’s quick-witted response was met with enthusiastic applause. “Ma’am, I don’t need a teleprompter. I’ve actually got thoughts in my head, unlike Kamala Harris,” he quipped, drawing roars of approval from the crowd.

Vance’s remark was more than just a dig at Harris; it was part of a broader critique of the Vice President’s approach to leadership. Since President Joe Biden was effectively forced out of the 2024 race by his own party, making Harris the de facto nominee, Vance has been relentless in pointing out her failures and inconsistencies.

One of Vance’s key criticisms is Harris’s tendency to promise action "on day one" of a potential Harris-Walz administration. Vance has repeatedly noted that as the sitting Vice President, Harris already has the power to address many of the issues she claims she’ll tackle if elected. “Day one for Harris,” Vance told a crowd in Michigan last week, “was 1300 days ago.” This pointed reminder of Harris's time in office effectively undercuts her campaign promises and raises questions about her effectiveness as a leader.

Vance has also highlighted Harris’s reluctance to engage with the press, a stark contrast to his own openness. On one occasion, Vance approached reporters waiting by Air Force Two, joking that he was just checking out the plane since it might soon be his. He assured the press that he would take their questions, even when Harris wouldn’t.

Harris finally agreed to a pre-taped interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, set to air on Thursday. However, the fact that it’s pre-recorded and that she’ll have her running mate, Governor Tim Walz (D-MN), by her side, does little to dispel the image of a candidate overly reliant on careful scripting and support.

As Vance continues to campaign across the country, his teleprompter-free approach is becoming a hallmark of his style, drawing a clear contrast with Harris. His sharp critiques and quick wit are resonating with voters who are looking for a Vice President who can think independently and act decisively.
