Jasmine Crockett Files to Run for Senate in Texas
Far-left firebrand enters crowded Democrat primary as GOP holds firm in red Texas.

Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett has officially filed to run for the U.S. Senate, jumping into what is shaping up to be a messy and ideologically fractured Democrat primary. The firebrand congresswoman from Dallas submitted her paperwork at the last minute, positioning herself as the latest progressive voice attempting to upend Texas politics a move that Republicans say is doomed from the start.
Crockett, 44, is a far-left fixture in Democrat circles and a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, frequently using her House platform to grandstand in hearings and push identity politics. Her entry into the 2026 Senate race comes just hours after former Rep. Colin Allred who failed to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz in 2024 dropped out, citing Crockett’s rising influence and potential dominance in the primary.
“It is hilarious to me that me saying that I will announce what I plan to do on 12/8… is scaring the heck out of so many people,” Crockett wrote last week on X, basking in the attention. “The attacks are hilarious.”
Translation: she’s here for the drama not the data.
While Crockett claims her decision is rooted in “historical data” and not emotion, political insiders see this for what it is: another attention-seeking move from a career agitator with zero statewide appeal in a deeply red state.
Texas Democrats are in disarray:
State Rep. James Talarico, a progressive with a populist brand, is staying in the race and claims to have “record-breaking grassroots” support.
Colin Allred’s exit signals internal panic, as the party once again scrambles to find a standard-bearer with even a remote chance of winning statewide.
Meanwhile, Republicans are locked in a serious battle for the nomination a fight between political heavyweights like Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Rep. Wesley Hunt. Unlike the circus on the left, the GOP is focused on who can best help President Trump enact his America First agenda during his final two years in office.
Make no mistake: the stakes are high.
The GOP holds 53 Senate seats, and keeping Texas red is critical to maintaining the firewall against Democrat obstruction.
Trump won Texas handily in 2024, and the Cook Political Report rates the seat “Likely Republican.”
Texas remains a stronghold for conservative values, low taxes, energy independence, and border security issues that Crockett has consistently attacked from her perch in Congress.
This Senate race isn’t just about Texas it’s a preview of what’s to come in the 2028 fight for the White House. Democrats are trying to use Crockett and others like her to inject radical, divisive rhetoric into Southern politics. But the people of Texas aren’t buying it.
Crockett’s record in Washington is one of noise, not results. If her campaign is anything like her time in Congress, expect plenty of Twitter meltdowns, race-baiting soundbites, and empty promises with no serious vision for Texas.
If Democrats want to turn Texas blue, they’re going to need a lot more than a viral social media account and MSNBC sound clips.
