Crockett Criticized After Claiming Law Enforcement ‘Isn’t to Prevent Crime’

Jasmine Crockett claims law enforcement’s job is to solve crimes, not stop them Americans aren’t buying it.

Democrats have said a lot of wild things in recent years, but Rep. Jasmine Crockett may have just taken the crown.

In a viral clip from a podcast appearance, the Texas Democrat declared that “law enforcement isn’t to prevent crime” a statement so absurd it drew immediate backlash from law enforcement, conservatives, and everyday Americans alike.

“Law enforcement solves crime, OK? That is what they are supposed to do,” Crockett said during the "Grounded" podcast. “Not necessarily prevent them from happening per se.”

Let that sink in. According to Crockett, police aren’t supposed to stop crime from happening they’re just supposed to show up after the fact and take a report. Tell that to the thousands of officers patrolling our streets, running community programs, and working overtime to stop the next shooting, robbery, or assault before it happens.

Here’s what Crockett completely ignores:

  • Police presence reduces crime. A 2021 study from the National Bureau of Economic Research showed that a visible law enforcement presence lowers crime rates by up to 15% in urban neighborhoods.

  • Proactive policing saves lives. Cities that implemented “hot spot” policing saw violent crime drop significantly sometimes by more than 20% in high-crime areas.

  • Law enforcement is trained to prevent and deter crime, not just investigate it after the damage is done.

Law enforcement officer and consultant Deon Joseph put it perfectly in response:

“Jasmine Crockett is wrong. It is our job to prevent crime. We just need more support. I didn’t sign up to just wait for people to be victimized.”

Crockett’s ignorant remarks came as part of her rant against how the Trump administration handled law enforcement in Washington, D.C. during periods of unrest. She bizarrely described federal efforts to restore order as a “hostile government takeover” conveniently forgetting the chaos, looting, and violence that necessitated a federal response in the first place.

This is the same Jasmine Crockett who once claimed the only reason people criticize her is because of her “eyelashes” and who regularly plays the victim card whenever called out. But this time, even her usual defenders are silent.

The backlash was immediate and brutal:

  • Journalist Nick Sortor called it one of the dumbest things he’d ever heard.

  • Author Matt Van Swol labeled it “truly one of the dumbest statements ever made by anyone on planet Earth.”

  • Tulsi Gabbard’s deputy chief of staff, Alexa Henning, said it best: “Terrifying how stupid people get into higher office.”

Americans want safety and security not politicians who think the job of law enforcement is to watch crime unfold and clean up the mess afterward.

Once again, Democrats prove they’re more interested in defending ideology than defending the public.
