Israel Thwarts Hezbollah's Massive Rocket Attack

IDF neutralizes hundreds of rockets and drones, preventing a catastrophic assault on Israel.

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted hundreds of rockets and drones fired by Hezbollah early Sunday morning. The Iranian-backed terror group, operating out of southern Lebanon, launched the attack in retaliation for Israel’s elimination of Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's top military commander, late last month.

The IDF’s swift response prevented what officials describe as a much larger and imminent assault. Approximately 100 Israeli fighter jets struck over 40 Hezbollah launch sites, neutralizing a coordinated plan to fire up to 6,000 rockets and drones at Israeli targets.

Key Details:

  • Hezbollah has launched over 6,700 rockets, missiles, and drones at Israel since the October 7 Hamas attack, displacing hundreds of thousands of Israelis.

  • The IDF identified Hezbollah’s preparations for a large-scale attack and, in coordination with Israel's Defense Minister and IDF Chief of Staff, launched a preemptive strike.

  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s determination to defend itself, stating, "Whoever harms us, we harm them."

Following the initial wave of airstrikes, Israel continued to target Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon throughout the morning. Meanwhile, an Israeli delegation is expected to travel to Egypt to discuss a potential ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz has urged global support against what he calls the "Iranian axis of evil," led by Hezbollah. Katz highlighted that Israel’s preemptive actions were crucial in preventing a devastating attack and reiterated that while Israel seeks to avoid full-scale war, it will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens.
