Israel Slams Greta Thunberg’s Jail Claims as Brazen Lies

Foreign Ministry says eco-activist’s allegations of abuse are fiction as she faces backlash for Gaza flotilla stunt.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg is once again in the headlines not for saving the planet, but for allegedly spreading blatant lies about her treatment in an Israeli detention facility. And now, Israel’s Foreign Ministry is firing back.

Thunberg, who was detained earlier this month for participating in the illegal Global Sumud Flotilla a stunt aimed at breaching Israel’s maritime blockade of Hamas-run Gaza reportedly told Swedish officials that she had been forced to endure “hard surfaces,” bedbug infestations, dehydration, and “harsh” treatment. Israeli officials are calling that out for what it is: fiction.

“These are brazen lies,” the Foreign Ministry declared in a statement posted Sunday. “She did not complain to Israeli authorities about any of these ludicrous and baseless allegations because they never occurred.”

Court records support Israel’s account. Documents from an Oct. 5 hearing before Israel’s Population and Migration Tribunal show no record of any abuse claims. Thunberg reportedly asked to be deported to Sweden but never once mentioned rashes, bedbugs, or mistreatment.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry was blunt:

  • Detainees received food, water, medical attention, and access to legal counsel.

  • All legal rights were “fully upheld.”

  • The stories being spread through sympathetic media outlets are pure political propaganda.

And they’re not alone in rejecting Thunberg’s claims. Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had this to say. “These are supporters of terrorism. I’m proud they experienced the same conditions as terrorist detainees.”

Thunberg, 22, was part of a group of around 450 foreign activists intercepted on October 1 by the Israeli Navy. The 42-boat “aid convoy,” which left Turkey the day before, was little more than a publicity stunt aimed at undermining Israeli sovereignty and bolstering Hamas's narrative all under the guise of “humanitarian aid.”

To be clear:

  • The Gaza flotilla was illegal under international maritime law.

  • The blockade is a lawful security measure, recognized by the U.N., to prevent weapons smuggling into Hamas territory.

  • Thunberg and her fellow travelers knew full well what they were doing and what side they were helping.

Adding to the circus, a Turkish journalist aboard the flotilla claimed Israeli guards “dragged little Greta by her hair, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag.” The claim has zero substantiating evidence, and even mainstream media outlets have failed to verify it.

Meanwhile, Israel reported that one Spanish detainee bit a female medical staffer at Ketziot Prison. But sure tell us again how Greta’s the victim here.

Let’s be honest: Thunberg’s transformation from eco-activist to full-blown anti-Israel agitator is no accident. Over the past year, she’s gone from lecturing world leaders about carbon emissions to parroting Hamas talking points and embracing radical leftist causes across Europe.

Now she’s upset that the adults in the room didn’t roll out the red carpet when she tried to illegally breach the territory of a sovereign nation known for defending itself against terrorism.

Israel has had enough of the lies and it’s refreshing to see a country call out this kind of virtue-signaling performance for what it is.
