Israel Closes Embassy In Ireland Over Extreme Anti-Israel Policies

Decades of hostility and inflammatory rhetoric have pushed Israel to take a stand.

Israel has officially closed its embassy in Ireland, citing what it describes as “extreme anti-Israel policies” and escalating hostility from the Irish government. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced the decision on Sunday, stating, “Ireland has crossed every red line in its relations with Israel.”

Sa’ar went on to condemn Ireland’s actions, including its “antisemitic rhetoric” and pattern of demonizing Israel. According to Sa’ar, the move allows Israel to refocus its diplomatic efforts on nations that show respect and fairness toward the Jewish state.

Ireland’s decision to align itself against Israel is not a recent development it is part of a disturbing pattern that stretches back decades:

  • In February 2024, Ireland’s then-leader Leo Varadkar condemned Israel’s defense operations, calling them a “gross violation of international law,” while ignoring Hamas’ brutal attack on Israeli civilians.

  • In May 2024, Ireland joined Spain and Norway in officially recognizing a “Palestinian state,” bypassing any peace process and emboldening Hamas terrorists.

  • On November 7, the Irish Parliament passed a motion accusing Israel of “genocide,” a baseless charge that mirrors propaganda from Hamas and its sympathizers.

  • Just last week, Ireland lent its support to South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, repeating the inflammatory accusation of “genocide.”

The current Irish leadership, including Prime Minister Simon Harris, insists that their position is about “peace” and “human rights.” Yet their rhetoric and actions consistently paint Israel as the aggressor while downplaying Hamas’ atrocities, including the October 7th massacre that left over 1,200 Israelis murdered and hundreds more kidnapped or injured.

Ireland’s antagonism toward Israel goes far beyond recent events. For years, the Irish government has cultivated a pattern of appeasing anti-Israel voices while ignoring the threats faced by the Jewish state.

  • In 1996, Ireland became the last European Union country to allow an Israeli embassy on its soil.

  • In 1945, just days after Adolf Hitler’s death, Ireland’s then-leader Éamon de Valera infamously expressed condolences to the Nazi regime an act that stands as a chilling reminder of Ireland’s historical hostility toward Jews.

Perhaps most shockingly, in 1943 during the height of the Holocaust a prominent Irish politician, Oliver J. Flanagan, openly praised Germany’s persecution of Jews, declaring in Parliament that “Germany did… rout the Jews out of their country.”

Ireland’s blatant double standards and anti-Israel policies have reached a boiling point. While Israel continues to defend its citizens from Hamas terrorists who hide behind civilians, Ireland chooses to undermine those efforts by labeling Israel as the villain.

By closing its embassy in Dublin, Israel is sending a clear message: nations that demonize and delegitimize the Jewish state will not be rewarded with diplomatic ties.

Israel has every right to defend its people, its sovereignty, and its reputation on the world stage. It is Ireland not Israel that should take a hard look in the mirror.
